Mixing Drum Loop and Bass in Bitwig Studio - Drum N Bass

In this video we explore a technique to make the kick punch through the dense bass wall of a regular Drum n Bass track. I wanted to try out using only loops from the stock library in Bitwig Studio which features some really nice samples (if you know where to look).

We also look at a way of making some quick parallel compression / saturation with the Chain Device.

Nice video. I often make single or multi band side-chaining but I rarely use click tracks. Mostly I prefer to make a very narrow band that triggers the side-chain modulator. It can get muddy and confusing if I try manual mixing afterwards so I am developing a routine to bounce after using side-chain modulators for mixing.

Thanks for this little tip on coupling drums a bass together, Mattias! Indeed, inexhaustible topic, I think we can shot a movie or book series (horror! :)) on this =) Nice, that it's quite handy to choke one or another part of spectrum dynamically in Bitwig, thanks to the modulators. I think, probably everyone can do this anywhere, but when it's quite hard, it's done only on mastering stage, still sometimes it's useful to listen to properly balanced sound even while working on the material. Not saying about creative applications (parallel saturation!).

This video helped me a lot. In the latest felease of Bitwig (5), the packs these samples came from are gone. I was able to get to them by installing an earlier version that still had the packs included.

That's Ableton Live workflow... Why won't you simply use Audio Sidechain modulator and focus it on the kick?

Hm is there difference between audio and note sidechain in practice? I prefer to create midi notes and i see many producers use hi-hats to make sidechain. What way is the best?

about mixing and mastering... Do you think a package of any manufacturer (for example Izotope or Fabfilter) can fully satisfy the need for quality mixing (including compression and equalization), are they self-sufficient in their complete sets, or is it better to use various specific vst tools (for example fabfilter pro q 3 equalization, Voxengo limiter and Waves compressor?
