I am one of the musicians who has highly praised ATTERBERG for a long time. I have also seen other sites uploading scores of Symphony No. 6. Thank you for uploading this version as well, it's wonderful. I am very grateful that everyone is uploading various scores. This is a comment from an unknown composer from Okinawa JAPAN.

"For the 100th anniversary of the death of Schubert in 1928, the Columbia Graphophone Company sponsored a worldwide symphony competition in which composers were to write a symphony completing, or inspired by, Schubert's "Unfinished" Symphony. Atterberg entered his Symphony No. 6 in C major, Op. 31, and was awarded first prize, winning $10, 000. The symphony, which was later known as the "Dollar Symphony", was recorded by Sir Thomas Beecham. The symphony was performed by Arturo Toscanini in 1943, during an NBC Symphony Orchestra broadcast concert; a performance which Atterberg praised on hearing the recorded broadcast."

Boy he knew how to write for Horn. I once played his horn concerto, which is also great. Thanks for that superb symphony.

Atterberg's skills as a melodist are truly remarkable, his symphonies are full of both lyrical and powerful themes. That second theme at 2:10 (which somehow reminds me of Dvorak's 9th symphony) is exquisite and becomes even more beautiful when it overlaps with the first theme. And god, 25:30 is majestic!

For anyone wondering why this symphony is called the "Dollar Symphony".
He wrote this piece for a competition and got awarded first place, winning 10.000 dollars. After that he renamed this symphony, his "Dollar" symphony.

Though no-one seems to have said it, Stig Westerberg's performance of the symphony is one of the best available - at least in my book. Thanks for posting it, it really makes the most of this symphony.

Written to win a prize and it shows it. Imagine the Dollar Symphony as the soundtrack to a Star Wars movie. It grabs your attention immediately, it's fun to listen to, everyone can understand it, it never bogs down, and it's designed to deliver its payload on first listen. But after that, is there any there, there?

Great piece! One small part of the melody in the final reminded me every time of Symphonie Fantastique.

I was right now thinking on how would be nice to have the score of this amazing symphony to read while listening then I came across this video. Thanks a lot.

Just realized the end of this symphony sounds like an homage to the ending of the first movement of mahlers colossal Third symphony. And thats a compliment

Great symphony. 26.35 to 26.45 (only ten seconds I know, but almost jazz) is amazing....!

I have a question concerning clarinet solo
Clarinet in A plays in g moll, that would be sound e moll, just in the key of the movement. Why clarinet plays in real g moll?

He rewrote this for his piano quintet, interesting

Hi there! Does anyone know the relation of this Symphony to the Klavierquintett? Which work was first? And why did he this arrangements? I can't find anything in the internet about this. Thank you!!

Tuneful, colourful, attractive and very skilfully composed. However, decidedly inferior to Franz Schmidt's Third Symphony.
