How to Care for Seedlings (For the Garden)

Once seeds are planted for the upcoming garden season, what happens when they sprout?! I’m answering all the questions on what to do after the seedlings start growing. Seed starting really can be easy and fun!

------------------------------

Instructions:

Once the seeds have been planted, check daily to ensure condensation is inside the clear lid. This means the seeds have the moisture they need. If the lid is dry, spray the soil with water.

Once the seeds break through the ground, remove the lid and keep the grow lights four inches from the seedings.

Fertilizing can be tricky for seedlings and can burn them easily. Once the true leaves have appeared and the cotyledons have gone away, fertilize every other week at half strength. Use an organic fish emulsion or seaweed fertilizer. Alternatively, an all-purpose 10-10-10 fertilizer can be used at half strength.

I planted seeds in egg cartons. I don't have a grow light. After the plants started to poke through the soil, I moved them outside on the terrace to get more light. I don't have to worry about freezing temps, so I hope the seedlings do well until I'm ready to transplant them into the garden. 🌱

Love the idea of labeling the side of the tray. I wish I would've thought of that... before planting!

I’m so excited I have four flats and I took my kids off today. I’m in South Louisiana so I’ll let the Sun do it’s thing. They look great 🥰

I use fish tank water for nutrients. Works really well too.

Thank you for sharing this vid. Great info

When do you start to put the water underneath the cells instead of just spritzing them on top?

Is there a reliable method of knowing exactly how much water to give seedlings to prevent damping but also give them enough moisture to grow?

How long can I keep them growing in the trays? I’ve been starting them but once I transfer they die. Should I wait a few more weeks after they sprout to transfer? (I use an LED during the winter, I have no problems outside during spring and summer)

I have hard time to let go the extra. I know it’s good to keep one only in the pot.

My cosmos seedlings are beginning to dampen off. Probably from overwatering. Is there any way to save them? I was thinking maybe potting them up?

And how come when you water from the bottom like that it doesn’t over staturate the cells? I can only leave my cell trays in the water for 30-60 seconds otherwise they just become super saturated, even when I use really light soil

How long did it take for them to grow this far? Your last video was not long time a go!
