Amidst the relentless surge of calls and countless kittens flooding in, Mama Merida's story stands out. Abandoned on the street with her six 10-day-old newborns, she was thrust into a fight for survival. This brave mama, with immense determination, carried each of her vulnerable babies to the safety of a nearby porch, one by one.

Exhausted and fearful, Mama Merida nestled them close, hoping to shield them from the dangers that loomed. When the owner of the house discovered this innocent family, she immediately called us. When we arrived, the sight of this helpless mama DESPERATELY trying to nurse and shelter her newborn kittens was beyond gut-wrenching. Her kittens, not even two weeks old, were crawling with hundreds of fleas which can be life-threatening for newborns. Mama Merida herself was visibly depleted, having used every bit of her strength to protect her babies.

Upon bringing this family to their foster home, Mama Merida was given fresh food and water immediately to replenish her energy. The kittens, still reliant on their mother's milk, underwent critical emergency care. Capstar was administered to eliminate the fleas, and each kitten was meticulously cleaned to remove the swarming parasites. This delicate process was vital to prevent the fleas from draining them of their lifeblood and causing fatal anemia. Now, in the warmth and safety of our rescue, Mama Merida and her kittens have a fragile but fighting chance at recovery.

Their journey towards healing is only just beginning, and while they are momentarily safe, the road ahead is long and perilous. The constant need for medical supplies and care is a heavy burden, and we remain committed to seeing them through.
