Learn how to work with permutations, combinations and probability in the 14 word problems we go through in this video by Mario's Math Tutoring. We discuss factorials and how to simplify factorial expressions as well as the fundamental counting principle. We also discuss the formulas for nPr and nCr as they relate to permutations and combinations. We go through different ways to approach these problems.

Thank you! I am relatively good at math however, the way this is being taught to me by my professor is almost like rocket science. There is no room for asking questions because the professor will belittle you. Your videos help tremendously and allow me to feel a bit more confident!!

Even though permutations and combinations can be really tough, but I find it interesting as this topic can be easily relate to the real life situation. Definitely one of the best explanation Mr. Mario 😇

6:50 Number 4 is not complete. Unless the question is vague, I understand you mean grouping 20 players into teams of 5. This is actually very common in soccer training - forming, maybe 3 teams of 6 each out of 18. These teams would then train seperately. Without restrictions, The first set can be chosen in 20C5 ways (leaving 15), the next can then be chosen in 15C5 ways, the third set in 10C5 ways and the final set of five players form a team in themselves (that means there is no selection to be made, 1 way). Total selection is 20C5 * 15C5*10C5 = 20/(5!5!5!5!)

Thank you so much for doing this video! Combinations and permutations were two concepts I never felt taught how to apply. This video will help me a lot with standardized testing!

Question number 4 seems a little weird to me. It said how many different "teams of 5 players" can be formed. I think it should be singular. A singular team of 5 is being formed from the 20 players.
If it's plural, it sounds like you're actually forming 4 different teams of 5 players to play a against each other or something.
Which, that would make the math totally different.

Thank you for your video. I have a question.
For no.5, I solved it as typical counting, and I got different answers. Can you explain where did I do wrong?
(Not Replacing) 1/6*1/6*1/6=1/216
(Replacing) 1/6*1/5*1/4=1/120

This one actually teaches you how to do a variety of permutations and combination questions as related to probability! Nice! All the other ones I've seen don't do that. They do an easier question similar to the one at 14:17 and end it at that.

If you mentioned the words draw exactly “cat” then order is implied hence permutation is alluded. To use combination would be confusing to a student who is recently advised to discriminate between order matter and order does not matter. I am not saying 3c3 is wrong, I am saying in the eyes of a learner there is a seeming contradiction.

I just want to thank you for your permutation and combinations and probablity videos. I've watched all of them and they're the best videos on YouTube that finally helped me understand truly what they are how to approach and solve them instead of plug and playing the formulas. Thank you!
