Contact and Non-Contact forces for Primary is eleven-year-old Brendan’s entry into the Wolsey Hall Oxford Homeschooling Community Science Experiment competition. This experiment was taken from the Wolsey Hall Oxford Primary Year Science Course.

Brendan is homeschooling with Wolsey Hall Oxford in Dubai. Brendan entered the ‘Best experiment from a Wolsey Hall Oxford Science course’ category.

Brendan starts by explaining contact force when two objects come together and make a movement. Examples he demonstrated included pushing, pulling and twisting. Brendan then goes on to demonstrate non-contact force using a model of the solar system he had created with the sun in the centre and the planets orbiting around the sun. The gravitational force is an excellent example of a non-contact force whereby something moves without being touched.

We think Brendan discussion of contact and non-contact forces is really clear and useful and perfect as an experiment for primary homeschooling students.
