I think even with extended tips the exducer size is generally just the OD of the base circle on the compressor wheel. The extended tip dimensions should be measured or listed separately in addition to the base exducer diameter. Don't quote me and I'm sure it may vary by manufacturer, but if this wasn't the standard it would be very difficult to measure for replacement or upgrade wheels and comparing the sizes of turbos would also be far more complicated. Extended tips are basically there to make a wheel act like a slightly larger wheel with very few downsides, but the extended tip length and angle for a given diameter wheel can vary as well.

Great video thanks for breaking down the math. I learned alot.

It's turbo science. Did you know that gigantic turbochargers(turboprop actually) were used on the F1 engines that that launched the Saturn V for the Apollo mission? So I guess you could say it is rocket science

Yeah, but what about measuring one that’s on a truck-installed. How do you measure it? My caliphers aren’t long enough to reach through and even if they were wouldn’t the wheel be larger than the opening on the intake side?

Was hoping you would show how to measure the exducer of an odd blade wheel with extended tips. Lol. You could save a step with your math and not divide the hub diameter by 2... 2 x blade length Inc hub diameter Minus hub diameter would work out the same.
