Why CINEMATIC settings don't work on DJI Osmo ACTION 4

In this video we take a look at why cinematic settings on an action camera just don't work for action shots. Even if you use Gyroflow. In my example I have the DJI Osmo Action 4 and Freewel ND filters.

I filmed a bunch yesterday and today. Come to find out all of my footage was super shaky because of the shutter rule.. Thanks so much for this video. Perfect timing!

This gentleman fixed my issue with my action cameras, I bought action cameras to record my motorcycle rides. I was struggling to get decent videos. they were all grainy and shaky. I spent months trying to fix the issues, watched YouTube, and read online. The 180 shutter rule does not apply to action cameras on a motorcycle. Watch his previous video and follow the guides and rules and it is guaranteed that we will get the best results from your action camera regardless of daytime and motions, etc. Just pay attention to the White Balance. Many thanks...

I see this all the time in FPV/drone videos/posts too. When I first got into FPV I went to my normal settings and used RockSteady and was not happy with the results. I run 4k30 with at least 1/120 now and it's much better. People don't understand that digital stabilization thrives on higher shutter speeds.

That is super interesting and yes just did a day filming with 25fps and 180 rule and ND filters any when rock steady used on Osmo Action 5 pro it is unusable. But now I understand that the blur is messing with the wee computers thinking. Thanks for solving my problem on my action camera:)

Great video ! Thanks Mate !
Just a quick question
I m a kayak athlete, navigating on rivers and oceans is not really a super shaky environnment.
+ Using my head with a mouth mount as the active stabilizer should be enough to record with the 180° rule and ND/PL filters, right ?
And how bad (or good?) would it be if I still turn on Rock Steady
Just want to know before I buy anything
I ll still go check your other videos

This was one of best explanations on youtube ! Instant like and subscribe ! How about motovlogging chest mounted DJI A4 ? Should I use ND+1/50+25fps+RS off or the settings you provided in an earlier clip (the one fit for all with RS on, automatic) and keep nd filter only for mounted steady shots, or do you have a better idea ?

I use my Action 4 as a back up to Pocket 3 which does the main job. And I do shoot in 180 degree rule setting on both cameras. I can’t say that using ND filters is a gimmick or a trick or a foul play. I need them to get rid of the overexposure and I prefer a natural motion blur rather than the one added at the post. I don’t shoot action sports though, it’s mostly short films and sketches.

Good video! About motion blur in post... Maybe you can recomend any plugins for digital motion blur in post, after gyro stabilization? I try default motion blur plugin in davinci resolve and it not good enough for me. I use fpv drone with my action camera and this plugin generate artefacts. Maybe You know any better?

What about polarizing filter lenses? I need something to record videos of my car and get rid of reflections

I would guess they use gimbals even for action cam marketing? Would make sense to me as they then could use 1/50 or 1/100

Hi, you say you use 25fps, i have always been told 4k 30fps is the go to standard rate when shooting video footage. What would you say the benefit of using 25fps instead of 30?

Good Afternoon from Saudi Arabia. I've just bought an Action 4, Telesin filters(CPL, ND 8, ND16, ND32) waterproof housing etc etc. i'm an active road cyclist and am planning a long tour around the Peninsula of India. there will be a lot of tree coverage and dark spots. i want to use the camera as a dashcam in traffic areas and then use it whenever i wish to capture some scenic areas. my camera will be mounted on the bars(either above or below). cameras are a new territory for me. i repair bikes for a living. what settings should i apply to the video? 4K? 1080? 60FPS? do you recommend me attaching a filter? which one? what about descending from a mountain? same 60FPS? my head is spinning! thanks in advance.

So the next question is - what fps rate is recommended for action videos? 😄 because 25 doesn’t make sense to me

Also, Ketchup doesn't work as Mustard either.

Just add motionblur in past with davinci resolve 😅

I miss the compact wearable gimbals from the early GoPro days.
