Who can stop China's surge to global dominance? It's one huge question, and one huge challenge, that the new US president, Joe Biden, is already facing. Biden has inherited a divided and doubt-ridden America from his predecessor Donald Trump. Meanwhile, Xi Jinping 's China is both expansive and authoritarian. It's two rival systems apparently on collision course. So, on "To the Point" we ask: Biden's America against Xi's China: Struggle for supremacy?

Just a couple of advice for DW. Next
time bring in guests that are actually experts in the field they're talking about, do a video link if you have to, please don't reuse your own correspondents and engage in a circle jer k.
Also bring in different viewpoints, it's not fun watching guests complimenting how right the other person is.
This point is about China specifically, next time when you do a story about China, do try to treat the Chinese people as human beings with their own aspirations and viewpoints, if the Chinese people wants their government to be more assertive, (Which is the case) then treat it as it is.
Why is it that when Chinese become more assertive in protecting their own interest it's labelled as "assertive", and when the US have been launching destructive wars every couple of years it's portrayed as "alliance building" or "protecting democratic values"?

"If you oppose China you are in trouble." If due to your sovereign interest and oppose US are you not in trouble too? Why the double standard with the same issues?

The main difference between China and Western Countries is the attitude regarding the history of their relations. Chinese people, even common people, remember very well that China was a rich and prosperous country before the contacts with the West, at that time mostly Great Britain and France. Instead, almost nobody in the West, except a few scholars and historians know anything about it. Ask an average person in London or New York about the Opium Wars or the Taiping Rebellion and you get a blank expression, not so in Beijing or Shanghai. Without recognizing that China has some very good reasons to be suspicious of the West and for willing to do anything to reach and maintain a position of force (the position it lacked two centuries ago) the USA and the EU will not be able to avoid dangerous, perhaps even tragical mistakes. And the talks about the lack of democracy in China sounds more than hypocritical considering the blind eye reserved for countries like Saudi Arabia today and most of South American dictatorship a short time ago.

China learned a good lesson from the European invasions, and even managed to survive maintaining the key elements of its ancient civilization - e.g. language, etc. Western Europeans had their historic 15 min of fame and its over for them and they know it. Of course, it´s hard to live with that after a few generations of growing up feeling like the kings of the world, so they will support anything that can oppose China/Asia to maintain their position.

The very fact that Europe has to chose between China and America says a lot about the influence China has gained in Europe

You are talking about a 5, 000 years old civilisation Vs. a 300 minor year old Country... China went through ups and downs, felt the pain of all the the countries that are suffering now are feeling .. what a program so lacking depth. Being able to feed your own people, isn't it the highest human right - to be able to feed themselves?

Restoring its dignity after a century of humiliation must not be viewed a struggle to supremacy. The west must re-examine its past historical policies of how they treated China. Just like Japan they do not express remorse or even offer apology for the past aggression towards China.

China just wants be autonomous and prosperous. And they have 1.4 billion people who are united, determined, and hard-working. I suppose the trend is pretty clear.

"...China will fight to maintain authority over Taiwan..." Maintain authority, what authority? Taiwan has not proclaimed independence, but is self governing with own laws and parliament. She needs to read up. And scary thing is that no one in this video raised any critical question about the way she phrased that.

Concerns over Human rights in China only started mattering when China became a rival to the US

Being tough does not help, it's too late for that. What the USA (and Europe) have to do is to define rules by which global trade or more generally global politics are regulated. The USA had no incentive to create rules they would have to follow themselves. That was the situation at the end of the cold war. They won, they had the power. Today China is too strong to be reigned in by the USA alone and Europe does not depend as much on the USA as they did then. China has the capability to act consistently and flexibly. The USA lacks this feature.
