Plant Based News recently sat down with Dr. Lim, Director at the McDougall Health & Medical Centre. The interview was conducted at the Physician's Committee's 2017 Nutrition in Medicine conference. We also interviewed Dr Barnard and Dr Greger at the event about health myths, weight loss, veganism and plant-based nutrition. Stay tuned.

Anthony Lim, MD, JD, Medical Director: Anthony Lim, MD, JDAs Medical Director, Dr. Lim oversees the medical care of participants in the McDougall Program. Dr. Lim is a board-certified family physician, and enjoys working closely with patients to help them adopt healthier habits that can significantly improve their overall health. He is a graduate of Stanford University with a degree in Human Biology, and subsequently obtained his law degree from Harvard Law School and his medical degree from Boston University. He completed his residency training at Santa Rosa Family Medicine Residency and has a busy career combining patient care, teaching, and community advocacy focused on whole food, plant-based nutrition. He has a special interest in the role of diet and lifestyle medicine in both preventing and treating chronic illnesses such as obesity, diabetes, cancer, autoimmune conditions, and heart disease. Dr. Lim lives in Santa Rosa, CA and is happily married to his college sweetheart, Jean. Together they have a son and daughter who bring them endless joy and laughter. Outside interests of his include hiking, biking, playing tennis, cooking healthy meals and learning guitar.

YES! going on 5 months with a fully compliant whole foods plant based diet. My Cholesterol went from 225 to 120! I have lost 65 Lbs.. Very little exercise just walking a few times a week.

I met him recently and am so grateful he is out spreading the good information along with all the other doctors he mentioned. I am a nurse and I quit working for the VA because it didn’t make sense to me that my patients would come in with bags of medications and just seemed fatter and sicker and more inflamed. Nutrition in the most basic sense was rarely discussed. Unbelievable that doctors or nurses are not taught about the healing properties of nutrition. That’s big pharma.

I've had experience with several diets: macrobiotic, lacto vegetarian, paleo. All were beneficial. What they have in common is reliance on whole, unprocessed foods and avoidance of sugar. To me that's key.

And that is why I tell people that you can't believe everything a doctor or vet tells you. Just because someone is a doctor does not mean they know truth or are properly educated. Thank you for your testimony.

I'm not on this exact type of diet (I still eat some dairy and eggs), but watching Dr John. McDougall has inspired me to try eating more fresh fruits, something I believed for years was "too much sugar". The result has been that I've finally managed to lose over 10 lbs and am no longer overweight.

I totally get this. Plant-based worked so much better than me than Keto in so many ways. I’m not saying Keto is wrong, as everyone is different, but it worked for me. I have autoimmune disease and finally feel healthier and more energetic. I love that this doctor is always trying to learn and better his practice.

When your overweight and eating the SAD menu, both keto and vegan diets will improve your health. Vegan does not have a monopoly on improving your health coming off the SAD diet.
