This was one of my favourite moments from the Halo Infinite campaign. It really made me care about the characters and the performances were fantastic. Really looking forward to chatting to the cast!

Chief gives off some Optimus Prime vibes with the "We all fail" line.

I chuckled a bit when chief took a knee and the camera shook lol.

The conviction in Chief's voice when he said "I will not fail you." That right there is the Chief we remember

One thing that I liked about this scene is that, when later on you discover the pilot is a civilian volunteer engineer, it makes sense the shift of Chief's attitude towards him. At first, Chief is the strong silent type: he treats the pilot the same as he would to any other soldier. He orders him to follow his instructions, doesn't listen too much to the pilot's concerns, reminds him about their duty as soldiers and stays silent (or sometimes, directly ignores) the pilot's questions and efforts to talk to him. My guess is that, it's because Chief's thinks he's a soldier, he expects the pilot to be prepared, both fisically and mentally, to act cording to the military training he's supposed to have received. That's why I think he tells him "Enough" with an imperative tone in his voice when the pilot is complaining about the situation. "It's your job. You're a soldier. Suck it up and behave and do as you're expected to".

However, once Chief's gets to know that the man in front of him is not a soldier, nor even a trained pilot, and sees him break down and fall to his knees and cry, Chief realizes he's not dealing with a frustrated soldier but with a desperate and scared civilian who has endured a hell that he was probably aware of to some extent, but not trained to withstand. And then, Chief's changes his attitude and talks to him with a little bit more of touch while encouragung him to keep going. This scene was good.

I love the fact you can feel chief’s weight just purely by him kneeling down, that little screen shake detail is fantastic

Looks like Master Chief usually sees humanity and military as two separete things and by now he realizes that soldiers that he fight along with are humans. The very thing he sworn protect

I love how chief is becoming more human I feel his pain not saving Cortana.

No fucking lie. I finished the game on heroic and a few days later, I had a student who was struggling in my martial arts class. And yes, I 1000% quoted The Chief and said "We all fail. We all make mistakes. It's what makes us human." Believe it or not, that quote from a video game actually changed a student's mindset.

“How have you ever failed?”

Ironically, for the first time really ever, we witness Chief completely fail in the opening scene against Atriox. Completely beaten and broken and tossed to the void. This pilot saves chief, and in the process humanity, and it takes Chief to remind him of that.
Thanks John, it’s been a rough year. Never thought I needed a Spartan to tell me it’s okay to fail.

The pilot has more character development than locke

I like how Echo's entire thing is that he's just a regular dude who got roped into John's usual galaxy-saving shenanigans, and through him we realize that, if it weren't for his Spartan conditioning and training, John probably would've cracked a long time ago.

Can we take a second to appreciate the incredible voice acting for the pilot here? Phenomenal work.

From
"Our duty, as soldiers, is to protect humanity. Whatever the cost."
To
"We all fail, we all make mistakes, that's what makes us human"

We've come a long way.

can I just say, that hearing The Pilot say "Have you ever been scared?" hits different if you know the lore. because yeah, the Chief HAS been that scared before: his first encounter with the flood shook him to his very core. sure, he would NEVER mention it, Spartans have a reputation to keep.

This one scene is already better than the entirety of Halo 5's story.

"How have you ever failed?"

The one thing that comes to mind is John winning that one race as himself but not as a team in The Fall Of Reach. It's small but it left an impact on how he is now as a character imo

The way Steve downes delivered the “I will not fail you” is just amazing.

"I'm not you!"

Now that line hurts for many people who have faced failure and broke down for it compared to someone who is immune to the feeling.
