Worth noting that halo 3 their is basically no waypoints the entire time then as soon as Cortina enters the helmet, we get a waypoint every twenty feet.

In the books it also goes into detail about how much of a struggle those 2 missions were for the chief, playing them on legendary was insane!

I just replayed combat evolved a few days ago and I honestly didn't notice the waypoints until the warthog chase at the end. Lol

I think it’s also because Cortana is the only one that ever understood chief and could see how broken he was watching everyone around him die and himself being forced to fight when he was just a kid

I also would like to mention in ODST, your teammates can place markers down for you, integrated into your VISR, which I think is kinda cool.

They even do this in Halo 3. There are no waypoints until you rescue Cortana.
