This song is not about being poor. It's actually about being rich. Your family, mom's love, love of your family IS your wealth.

I was born in 61 in the Appalachian Mountains in our little house by a midwife. We didn't have an inside bathroom but no one did at that time. My Mama had eight kids and we didn't know we were considered poor, lol. Mama would make us clothes, matching top and pants no matter the design on the fabric, lol. Oh how much I wish I still had just even one of those precious items she sewed with her beautiful hands. My Mama was the strongest human I've ever known. She was born in 22 in those same mountains. Life up in the Appalachians wasn't like life in other places but I couldn't ask for a more carefree and perfect childhood. Mama was 95 when she went to be with the Lord in 2017. I'm sorry for the life story but this song really stirred up memories about her. I miss her so much.

Dolly's best childhood friend Judy took up for her that day when the kids were making fun of her and Judy is STILL her best friend, her assistant and right there along beside her.

I remember my Daddy crying be day when just he and I were alone. He apologized for not being able to give us more than he did. We both cried, and I just didn't understand. I told him that we didn't know we were poor. We just knew we were loved, and that was better than all the material things in the world.

Dolly is a great singer, but an even greater story teller.

This is a true story of many poor families in the Appalachian mountains. This song would remind my dad of his mother and his eyes would glass over. Love is real.

I remember kids laughing at us and saying 'KMart Blue Light Special' - or Salvation Army Reject. But our parents took care of us and made sure we were loved.

Ps - isn’t it wonderful that this young lady who grew up in poverty is providing so much hope and opportunities for those who are struggling in and around where she was raised in Tennessee. She even provided income for folks who were affected by the tragic fires there a few years ago

This resonates with anyone who was proud of their family yet without money.

I'm a big ol former Marine, but I wasn't prepared for all the emotions of losing my mother to hit me two minutes into this. What a beautiful song. Had me ugly crying... Thank you. I needed this.

Dolly is worth 500 million today. Nobody is more deserving. She’s the same person she was when she was poor and has impacted so many lives.

Dolly was the 4th oldest of 12 children and was born in a one-room cabin in Tennessee.

"You're only poor if you choose to be". Wise words. Count your blessings. Attitude of gratitude!

We are lucky to live in the time of Dolly. 400 years from now they will talk about Dolly like we talk about Bach (1128 pieces of music), Mozart (650 pieces of music), Beethoven (772 pieces of music), Handel (117 pieces of music) and Vivaldi (800 pieces of music) that is 3467 songs total and Dolly has written over 3000 songs and still has fuel in the tank.
