Kindle Scribe - END of KDP Low Content Books?

Показать описание

Amazon recently released the Kindle Scribe, the Kindle that you can now write on, an electronic notepad. It comes with pre-installed templates for writing, journaling and making to do lists. So could this be the end of self published KDP no content, low content and medium content books on Amazon? Or could this in fact be an opportunity to design, create and sell interactive .pdf templates that can be downloaded onto the Kindle Scribe. I explore the effects of the Kindle on printed books and then look at the 3 main opportunities this device presents to digital creators like ourselves. It represents an opportunity to those already publishing on Amazon and to those that are new to creating digital products and getting in on the ground floor on a new business.

About this video - In this video I examine the new Amazon Kindle Scribe to see if this represents a threat to publishing low content books on Amazon or whether this could be an opportunity to create a new type of digital product.

Thanks for the info! I've been in the publishing industry for nearly 20 years and I remember the panic (and hype) of ebooks destroying the print market, but the same was said about paperbacks destroying the hardcover market decades ago. Ebooks and devices only offer another option for consumers--not a permanent replacement. In short, it's a good thing.

Books will never die, there is a wonderful feel to a book in a child’s hand.

I don't think people are going to rush out and pay $400 just to have a device they can write on. As the price comes down it may become more popular, but devices like this have come and gone over the last 20 years. Palm Pilot comes to mind. Will be fun to create content for these devices, but they will not take over the market.

I believe one big reason that ebooks declined last year is that mobile devices refused to allow buying ebooks on Amazon Kindle apps that year.

As a hybrid book publisher, I'm always happy to see different ways people can consume books. I'm a tactile person, so I love having a physical book in my hand. It is the way I learn and retain information. I love the feel of a good book. My favorite is the feel of the matte finish as it feels just like silk. Holding books in my hand feels great. Oh, and I love the smell, too.

Books will never die but I think your point of having more points of sale (multiple products for sale) is a great way to capture more revenue. Point taken. Thanks Paul! BTW - I came from The Home Boss channel; Nuria recommended your channel.

Paul, if you're weird for loving the smell of physical books, then you're in good company! I love going to bookstores and libraries to touch and smell books.

Thanks for all you're doing and keep up the good work

I have an iPad for notes, but nothing beats a book journal, note pad/book with a cover that is beautiful in my eyes.

I hope you can do a video tutorial for the kindle scribe. This is a great opportunity to expand our KDP pool of books and interiors which means more opportunities to make sales.

So, NOW, just 2 days after watching and learning from your amazing videos, consequently creating 3 low content ebooks just yesterday, all three now pending publishing on Amazon....I watch this and am overwhelmed by just how much I don't know! I want to create templates for the KScribe! I'm a newly retired, home school mom who's spent the last 25 years creating charts, planners, projects, daily to do lists and trackers in WORD to facilitate the massive, multi-level, learning styles of 3 kids thru 12 grades. I CAN make charts lol! Good, helpful, real-life tested, useful charts, BUT I have no idea how this translates to converting this all to usable templates. I'm currently stuck between just turning off my computer to go crochet something and listening to the little voice I hear telling me, DON'T GIVE UP! On a product released only 2 weeks ago, there's no How-To videos out there. Where DO I start? I so want to start! I'm done ranting now lol!

I always enjoy your content. Interesting thoughts and well explained. And I love the smell of books too! Even some of the older gross library books. Books are just great. When you love books and writing, you just do. I agree that the technology is also exciting. I love it all.

I doubt it. I tried something like this before, but sometimes you are around places that you need to take a break from Electronics. Its just something about using an actual physical book.

Its not weird Paul, there are a bunch of us that love that smell. Antiques books are my favorite. Great content thank you!

I think this is a great opportunity if more people adopt the kindle. However, I think these calendars are very popular on iPad now. Especially if you know InDesign.

Also, are you going to make a video on how to format and upload an ebook as this seems very interesting? Thank you. Love your videos!

From more of a consumer perspective - I'm an ereader user but there are plenty who like the feeling of collecting books, turning pages, etc. and being able to just buy a book rather than a whole device is a much lower barrier to entry, so that's one reason why physical books haven't been wiped out (along with the kindle not being an ideal replacement for every kind of book). The same case for note taking, etc. - all you need is a pen and paper/notebook but some people have their favourite notebooks with different types of paper, and using different pens that write just the way they like.
The kindle in both cases is like a third convenience option for someone who is more of an enthusiast but prefers the convenience of a device that holds everything rather than having a fully personalized experience or a physical collection.
