Campi Flegrei is one of the most active major volcanoes on our planet. It released Europe's largest volcanic eruption 40,000 years ago. It was the largest volcanic eruption to have occurred in Europe in the past 1 million years. Recently seismic events have been occurring at a seemingly increasing rate underneath the land of Naples, notably around the town of Pozzuoli. Government officials and locals are worried about these earthquakes, as they could indicate Campi Flegrei is awakening once again and it may release another caldera forming eruption.

In this video we'll delve into the history of Campi Flegrei, its past eruptions, and what events have been happening recently that is making so many people on edge. The area of Naples is home to 360,000 people. And nearly 200,000 people live directly inside the caldera

I send everyone here when they ask about Campi Flegrei. You have very informative videos on the subject.

Thanks for the video. Campi Flegrei is scary, even when I am living in the Netherlands outside of the danger zone. What surprises me are people claiming there is no sign of an eruption because there is no clear upward magma intrusion. This is not a typical shield or cone volcano with a steady magma tunnel and seeps or fountains magma onto the surface. When it collapses or ruptures with water flowing in, it will build pressure really fast and erupt with little notification. The absence of large bodies of molten magma below the cap is also no indication. If the pressure causes an explosion, that sudden pressure builds a lot of heath and can melt large bodies of solid material.

Not claiming it will erupt, but it would not surprise me. On a geological scale it can still easily take a few decades though. I am certain that many of the scientists share my concern, and know that they might only have a few hours max to evacuate. It is however not an option to evacuate millions of people on a permanent basis as of yet. They sort of accept the risk, knowing it can take millions of lives. It would be good for the people there to be informed properly, instead of them always hushing the people with Bradyseism.

I'm so glad l live in Australia, lots of people live under the fear of Volcanic activity, for their sake l hope it never happens, thanks for your videos, cheers mate, Neil 🤠.

Thanks Oz!! Yikes, with explosions at Stromboli, and Mt. Etna, now Campi Flegrei trying to break through the crust, how scary for the Italians!! Don't think I'll be visiting anytime soon, ha! Great, informative video/s! Amazing Oz!

We visited that in 1966 and walked in the Solfatara area and later climbed Mt Vesuvius. Very interesting sites.

Cascadia Subduction Zone is also doing stuff at the moment, Last 30 days have been interesting.

I’m more worried about Long Valley Caldera. It’s not only in the Red Zone, but uplift has been increasing lately. There’s been a rise in carbon and sulfuric acid levels killing plants and animals as well. New hot springs have also been popping up randomly around the Mammoth National Park too. I am not sure if it’ll erupt tomorrow or in another life time, but I am worried we are unprepared. Now we gotta worry about Campi Flegrei too? Yikes. 😮

Your Vids are fascinating 😃.
I'm holding my breath for your vid on Far North Queensland tsunamis and volcanoes and gold!

This was the reason that stoped the oil prospections by some companys in the coast of the mediterran sea. They wouldn't stop to save the sea life but for fear of the intense tectonic activity under this sea. Campi Flegrei is just one of the mouths of a very big but protective monster. ❤❤

Just 1 hour after this video, Campi Flegrei got hit by a 3.6 mag earthquake 😬

Two facts stand out: 1. The danger zone, (as described and I assume scientifically accepted), is once uplift hits 5 meters or twice what it's now at. 2. A large enough earthquake could break the cap stone and an eruption could then occur given the pressure inside the vessel will then exceed the tensile strength of the vessel itself. In my opinion there's a third fact. If the capstone is broken under the bay enough to allow water to flow into the magma chamber the flash boiling expansion will lead to a chain reaction explosion that could cause an eruption. Of course many things can happen that decrease the pressure and the threat level but it does seem to me the biggest threat for an eruption, or a sudden eruption, comes from a potentially large earthquake or large enough to fracture the capstone. It seems to me this could lead to a sudden and very unexpected eruption. Hunga Tonga, as I've come to understand, was a shock to scientists in the sense of the speed of the development of that size of an eruption. Eruptions of this magnitude, VEI 7, in the case of Campi Flegrei, or larger are not well understood as we really haven't seen them to understand them. When I say VEI 7, I'm referring to the large eruption that ejected 500 cubic km of tephra, not any of the small eruptions of course. For the record, in order to qualify as a VEI 8 or "Super Eruption" a volcano has to produce at least 1000 cubic km of tephra. At any rate, my concern at this point would be a large earthquake but when I say large I don't mean a large tectonic quake, I mean a quake considered large for a volcano or magmatic intrusion. I would be seriously concerned over 5 points on the Richter metrics, however I doubt it would take long to figure out if a large enough quake had catastrophic consequences to the capstone causing a volcanic eruption. Actually, my guess is the whole show would be on before the news was even able to report the quake. If the capstone fractures and the water from the bay meets magma, well, that would be catastrophic to say the least. Hard to say whether a fracture could happen in such a way that water could intrude or magmatic pressure would exude but either way, it would be blindingly fast in my opinion. Who knows though, tomorrow the whole thing could just go quiet and subside and all this is just a mental exercise and honestly, that would be best for humanity and civilization because if a full eruption happens, civilization itself is in serious trouble. In a world where people can't live without their cell phones, a volcanic winter, starvation and all the other chaos and negative effects of a large volcanic eruption, would bring civilization to it's knees. In my opinion, global starvation on it's own is enough to collapse everything because people won't just sit quietly and starve to death and the world hasn't had to deal with a real volcanic winter since 535 A.D. and nothing is the same now as it was then. First and foremost, the vast majority of humans have no clue how to survive in the natural world anymore, never mind when the sun won't shine long enough to grow food very well for an extended period of time. Then of course there's the little fact that there are magnitudes of order more hungry mouths to feed then there was in 535 A.D. FYI, 535 A.D. Krakatoa and or Ilopango. I watched documentaries on it, one for Krakatoa and one for Ilopango, the funny thing is, the same tree ring guy testified positive for both shows, but to me, what happened couldn't have happened from Krakatoa. At least not on it's own. I feel Ilopango was the bigger eruption and thus likely the real suspect. At any rate and after a wall of words, I digress with this: A VEI 7 would be very very bad so let's hope that doesn't happen.

I just canceled my trip to Naples Italy. There were 1252 earthquakes in April alone. This thing is going to blow soon
