In 1985 the THERAC-25, a state-of-the-art radiation therapy device, began to malfunction leading to a medical disaster. The THERAC-25 saved many lives but then began to blast patients with lethal doses of radiation. The casualties began to mount but the THERAC 25 wouldn't give its dark secret away easily. With as reliant as we are on technology today, and as we progress further on the AI front, stories like this terrify me. Also, as someone who has multiple health issues that require regular imaging tests, like MRIs (yes, I know it's not the same machine), it's scary to think that just one minute code or hitting one wrong button could do such unimaginable damage.
