BYD ATTO 3 review – the new EV on the block | Road Test

Making its UK debut, the BYD ATTO 3 is the new electric car from Chinese manufacturer Build Your Dreams. They’re perhaps best known as one of the world’s leading producers of rechargeable batteries as well as for building electric cars and trains. But does this mean they’ll have what it takes to create a car that’ll win over the British public, and compete with established favourites like the Hyundai Kona and MG ZS EV?

This SUV certainly sets itself out from the crowd with fun and distinctive features, especially throughout the interior with guitar strings on the doors and a range of interactive features apparently inspired by the gym. You also get a massive 15.6-inch rotating touchscreen and voice controls. As you’d expect, the battery technology is impressive with this top-spec ATTO 3 Design model which offers 260 miles of range from its 60.5kWh battery.
But beyond all of that, how does it drive? Duncan Vincent puts it to the test to find out if this electric SUV has what it takes to stand out in this competitive segment.

Just got Atto 3 a month ago(in red color) here in the Netherlands 🇳🇱 and I am loving it every moment.
Best value for my money and I am done with overpriced German cars.

They've been in Australia & NZ since about Sept last year first deliveries. On the whole everyone seems to like their car. It isn't perfect I will admit. Being in Scotland I was hoping you may have done some of the NC500 with it see what it was like. It can also tow up to 750kg well that is what it is here and take 50kg roofbox.

Absolutely love it from the moment I set eyes on it ! And let me also say it’s a plea to drive -yes it takes a wee bitty time to figure out all the bells and whistles via the huge display but it’s fun and relatively easy (even for this old yin ) I just love driving it and each time I get behind the wheel is exciting and so so easy to drive - lots of extras like sunroof and heated seats -vegan leather upholstery which looks more akin to a fancy top of the range sports car -it’s quick and quiet and if you’ve not already guessed I just love it -also I ordered on the Friday via AC Linwood branch and got it 4 days later YEP 4 days absolutely amazing now all I need is home charger which they OHME Are saying probably 8-12 WEEKS but hay ho I can wait -big shout to a fantastic more than helpful byd manager at Linwood Stewart Gunn who is a gentleman and nothings to much deserving of praise ….

Funny story. We tried BYD ATTO 3 this week and I asked my son should we get it or not. He said, no plz, I dont like this car. I asked- why?
Answer: "My sister already played 10 min non stop with those strings on the door. That drive my crazy, this car is bad"
We ordered Design trim and picking next week. We will play those strings all in the car! 🤣

I test drove this car the other week. It's a very well specified car with good battery chemistry which drove quite well, for a FWD car. As mentioned in the video a bit of torque steer if you were too heavy on the accelerator & fairly soft & compliant ride. Conservative exterior & slightly mad interior which is OK IMO & much more interesting than the dull & dark interiors that so many new cars have these days - MG4 I'm looking at you. And, hurrah, it has a rear wiper, something that seems to be missing on so many new cars these days.
However, this car is too expensive at the prices being asked for in the UK. This car sells for £10k less in Australia & NZ (RHD cars) & if sold for those prices in the UK it would be a no brainer even for an unknown / new brand to the UK market with a minimal number of dealerships at the present. Oh, and that Build Your Dreams lettering on the rear boot does not work. It needs to be removed or shortened to BYD. I remember when a certain Korean electronics company first entered the UK market as Lucky Goldstar &, after negative company name market feedback, very quickly changed their name to LG.
Personally I would be interested in a slightly smaller model of SUV if BYD make one. Something the size of a Kona or Mokka because not everyone wants or needs a mid size or large SUV.

Could have done more to show interior details like the shifter, hvac controls, main screen features. That section felt rushed and incomplete .
