For beginner ear training, I recommend the first few Ramones albums. It's very easy to hear the chords as the bass and guitar are playing the same thing, the songs are almost always composed of 2 or 3 simple chord progressions/riffs with no more than 4 notes or chords, the songs almost never follow a straight major or minor scale and often contain a key change or a weird chord in the bridge which makes it a little trickier than the songs initially appear.

after feeling stuck on my bass progression after playing songs that I like, I searched on how I could improve and this has helped a lot

Carol Kaye in her very old book "How to play the electric bass" says that playing along tunes is the best practice you can have, even better than playing live with mediocre bands. What do you think?

There are a lot of "do this x minutes a day" videos. As a level 0 beginner, if I add up all the minutes, I have little to no time to practice a song, which is the goal, and hopefully not a distant one. What should a noob focus on, also considering that we want to play real music? 30 minutes a day is the best average I can give you, 60 at the outside.

hi Tom this is my very first time watching your video and am very grateful but I actually don't practice regularly but when I play at church i can hear myself good and bad sometimes. what i really need here is how to figure out the major keys and the minor keys because I do play all right but may not know what am really playing. great common sense advice. Is that a Yamaha TRBX you're playing there? Very nice looking, and sounding, bass. I'm considering a Yamaha TRBX604 or BB434
