This video is about How long pianist should spend practicing piano everyday.

The short answer is practice for at least the duration of your lesson daily. Watch this as I discuss why it is so important to maintain a strong practice habit when you are attempting to play and master the piano. Hope this inspires you to dedicate more practice into your days!!

I practice from one to five hours everyday. I took lessons as a child starting at ten to eighteen. Stopped practing regularly. Then at age 54 had three heart attacks and a stroke. I lost my memory of piano but was determined to get it all back. Now at 58 I practice 1 to 5 hours a say and can play Moonlight sonata . Yaaaa

My music teacher said, ” never let the day come when you say, I used to practice every day!”

As an adult, I'm actually practicing more than as a kid, because I'm better at time management. I practice 20 minutes before work, 20 minutes after work, and then 20 minutes in the evening. I learn more this way than if I practiced for 1 hour straight. I've been able to keep this up for a while now, and I'm pretty proud of myself 😊

20-30 minutes before bed, and 20-30 minutes after breakfast, every day. The leap in progress from having a good night's sleep is amazing.

Wrong. You should practice 40 hours a day.

I practice three times a day for 15-30 minutes per session. I find that having short practice sessions is good for my focus and it helps me get results in really short progressions. It's nice to see that when I'm struggling with something in the morning, it goes better in the afternoon and I'm more comfortable with it in the evening.

My advices are: practice as long as you have fun, play as slow as you feel comfortable, compose and play your own music from the first day on.

I practise in the morning about 1 to 1 1/2 hours on either my pieces or what I like to call my Nuts and Bolts: And then in the afternoons I do the same amount of time but opposite to what I worked on in the morning. I will do that for 4 days, then chose a day on the weekend that is my Piano drill day and I run everything together. Then I get out of the house and walk, return and sit down and just do my pieces. Doing this and adding a lot of patience, and understanding that there is no ‘short cut’ or ‘magic’ to learning the piano just repeat, repeat, repeat makes me continue to play this instrument. Because practice is the only answer; steady, consistent practice. I’m an Adult Beginner piano player and am entering my third year of playing, yes I regret I never took piano as a child but am pleased that I started now as an adult and I just can’t stop. What a fulfilling and rich world to have music!

Sleeping on it. That’s how I learned chemistry.

Mindfulness! I can feel when the piano is separate from my body, and then I know I'm not in the mindful state. Immersion is so important to practice.

THANK YOU FOR MENTIONING SLEEP!! My students think I'm crazy but it's true, so much learning happens when we close our eyes. Great video overall.

I didn’t practice a lot when I was younger, before 14year old in average I practiced around 45min per day, when I was 14 I studied 2 pieces that was very hard for me at the moment(moszkowski’s op72 no2 étude and Mendelssohn’s rondo capriccioso) I started to be really methodical, and doubled my practice time. That year I really progressed a lot! When I was 15 I decided to take piano very seriously, I practiced at least 3 hours in average. In that year I studied one of my favorite piece: la Campanella! It was very hard, but by fighting in each jump, and trying do detach from the technical aspect and focusing on the music, I progressed hugely! After that I feel that no more piece seems impossible to learn Lol I increased my practicing time to 4 hours! And still progressing steadily! Now I’m 17, feel very comfortable playing la Campanella Lol That’s to my Great teacher!

Thank you for sharing your experience and knowledge. A few things I would share about learning.
1. As an adult beginner, I have started enough other things to know if I can't play things slowly, well, I am not really in control. I learned that 35 years ago taking skiing lessons (as an adult).
2. Home alone I am very safe. The minute I try things on a different piano for my lesson with my accomplished instructor, it doesn't take much to knock me off the path. I accept that - instructor-time toughens me up.
3. Part of my fun with piano is watching that daily improvement, so I am motivated to keep up with hour long and longer practice sessions.
4. It takes about an hour and a half to really get confident and control the piano. I hope the time it takes to get there gets shorter and shorter.
5. If I can't do something - I CAN'T DO IT! That's my basic test, and my instructor gets it when I say that when I flub something at my lesson.
6. My new test is audio-recording my attempts to get something right. It is like a virtual audience that I am accountable to. One piece took me 20 tries - after practicing a ton(!) - to get it perfectly right. A couple weeks later I listened again and I had progressed even further past that, with better musicality.
7. Your video on sight reading is right on - no matter how tempting it is, DON'T LOOK DOWN! Actually, I was teaching myself sight reading and my instructor saw I could handle it well for my early level, told me I get an "A" for that.

Thanks again for your video shares.

Thank you for these tips! I took piano lessons as a teenager for a few years and practiced 4 hrs daily. Then didn’t practice at all for about 10 or more years after I left home for college, med school and grad school. I am so glad to have music back in my life now and I practice ~2 to 4 hrs daily and probably learned well over 50 songs within the last year of practice :)

I really appreciate you being so direct in your guidance:
Need to be consistent, spend the time and being focused. It won’t come for free, but aim for a goal you want to achieve, like a song you like.
You are a great inspitation.

I'm in my sixties now; I started to learn three months ago by reading books and I have been practicing piano an hour a day.

I am so glad I found this. Started piano at 5 and had lessons and practised regularly for 17 years. At 22 I changed countries, my life changed and I gave up on it. Now at 56 I try to get back and increase my daily practise. Music is such a gift, regardless of achievements. Thank you for the inspiring lesson and all the comments that motivate me to do more. ❤️
