There were actual cases of people who were transplant recipients from a guy in his 20's who, one by one got sick and died. Turned out the organ donor was a spelunker (cave explorer) and had actually died of rabies. He lived in a rural area and no one knew exactly why he died. They also didn't consider his hobbies, which was why they didn't test him for rabies. Human rabies cases in the USA are exceedingly rare but if anyone is in need of an organ transplant (even a corneal transplant) should ask what the donor died of. If it's encephalitis, I would find out if they were tested for rabies.
