This is SO helpful! I have a new Presto and a glasstop, and thought I was supposed to measure from the overall diameter and not the “bottom part”!!! SUPER HAPPY to find this out! Thanks!

I love pressure canning my own chicken boy it saves time in the kitchen for getting food on the table and getting it done fast. Yes it has its limitations on what you're going to make with it but for the most part I find having a good supply of pressure canned chicken a wonderful addition to my pantry. I am one that chooses to par cook my chicken because I do not like how ugly it looks when you do a raw pack I know that's clearly for Aesthetics but to be honest you eat with your eyes before you eat with your taste buds and your stomach so if something looks unappealing you will not want to eat it

I’ve canned before eyons ago. Moved sold all that. I had electric stove before and always canned on it. Bought the same canner the Presto 23 qt ! So this is a timely vid for me. THEN I started reading about electric stovetops and canning and breakage. Everyone has a different answer. And I couldn’t find info on Kenmore site 🤦‍♀️. Read my book last night and am ready. SO GLAD I came across this vid! Thank you!!

I found this after all my research but glad you posted it. I, like you, called the manufacturers of both the stove and Presto and finally chose the 16qt due to the restriction of height of my microwave over the stove. The 23qt is 15.25" per Presto. I actually think the 16qt will more than suit my needs anyway.

I know I'm a little late but I am so thankful for this review. I am looking at pressure canners and I was really wanting to get the Presto 23 Quart canner. I looked at the measurements of the canner and it said 17" so I didn't think I would be able to use. Then you showed the bottom of the canner and showed the actual setting surface and said it was under the 12" diameter of your burner. I had just measured my burner and it was 12" as well. So glad I thought to look this up on YouTube and found your channel.

Thank you for this clear and informative video! I purchased my Presto canner back in 2011, only to learn I couldn't use it on the glass stove in our rental. Fast forward to 2020, lol, and I'm getting back into preserving. This time with a glass stove top that I can can with!!! Time to learn to pressure can!

I called Presto. I have a glass top and bought a 23qt canner. They told me the 9 1/2" burner was too big. They recommended I use the 6" burner. It works just fine!!!

Very helpful! You'd think that Presto would give the actual setting surface diameter measurements and that they would explain that there is a difference between the entire diameter of the canner bottom and the diameter of the setting surface. How can you know this if you don't actually own one? I was wondering how anyone with a glass top stove could use a Presto canner, since nobody has 15 inch heating elements on their stove and since I have a glass top stove, I'd pretty much abandoned the idea of buying a pressure canner before I watched this video. I've searched a lot on internet and you're the only one who I've found who thought of explaining this. Great job! :)

Thank you! I'm glad you explained the bottom of the canner cause I bought one and looked at the bottom and thought it wouldn't work on my glass top.

———2 hours later😳⁉️. You must have gotten a phone call from my cousin🤣🤣. I’ve considered a canner, so far I’ve only done water bath. So much great information to correctly use on a glass top stove.

I have a whirlpool glass top range, I looked it up and they have a info page just for home canning on their glass tops. Same as yours, you San can on them as long as it doesn’t exceed an inch over the burner, and it said to alternate burners used between sessions so the glass doesn’t overheat

The locking mechanism loosened on mine after the 1st use, and I didn't realize it till me and my daughter were canning. I didn't know what to do so it came up to pressure and stayed there the whole 90 mins. The whole time steam was coming out of the lock. When time was up we waited for a while and when the steam was all gone, we took out our jars, they sealed, we washed them, and put them up. Then the next time I realized that the lock had to be screwed tighter. I am still hoping that the food is good inside the jars. All this was just to say, that no one has ever mentioned that the lock needs to be screwed in tight before use. Loved your video. I was so excited when mine arrived, but I was only able to find the 16 quart, which is good enough for me. Have a Wonderful & Blessed Day!

You can go to Office depot or maybe Staples and have them spiral bound your book. I don't think it is very expensive.

I have the 23 qt canner like yours and the same fridgidaire glass top stove. I dont want to use the wrong setting when pressure canning... do you use largest ring or one ring down to keep only the flat part on the heating element? If using the largest ring, it looks like it heats up outside that flat bottom that you pointed out.
Hoping I asked that in a way that makes sense to you... wanting to do this, but be sure I am doing it safely.
Thanks for all your informative videos!!
