I was in Hockenheim once...and I could not belive how fast they tackeled the corners.
All the time I thought:
"But they have to break now...now...NOOOOWWWW!!!!" (they didnt)

Why does F1 look so slow?
Because TV is only filming the cars with zoom in/out and follow the cars.
I really miss the Helicopter views. They had them much more often back in the past.

Ive been to handful of gp and definitely tv is the best place to watch it. Circuit is for the fun and environment and yes for real speed of car. You hardly can follow the race.

Watching any form of racing in person vs on tv are two totally different experiences

TV can't replicate the noise, or the smell of fuel, rubber and tarmac. First race I attended was Spa 1996, had never been there before, arrived on the Friday and could hear the cars practicing, so parked up in a field thinking the circuit was really close... but we were about a mile and a half away! The noise of the cars was incredible. Of course, they are a bit quieter now than they were then, but it's still a visceral experience when you go to a live race. Nothing else like it.

Tbh this example is better on tv imo, it’s usually the high speed corners that look better In person. For example I sat at Abby in 2016/15 and farm in 14 and that was better than on tv but I sat at luffeilds for 16 qualifying and it looked slower

To be fair a GP is worth going for the atmosphere, interactions and so on. It's difficult to follow the action through a single section of the track and keeping tabs on what's happening on with the general picture of the race. That's why my life long dream is to attend a GP via a full paddock pass. You get to get a little behind the scenes and you get to watch the race on TV in the hospitality lounge. Pop a bit from time to time to see what happens on the start/finish straight. Well, back to saving more money for that to happen.

When I'm at a race, I just walkaround the entire track drinking beer, occasionally looking at the track. I usually don't follow any of it, but I always have a great day!

I said this before but I was watching the rolex 24 hour race and the camera angles seemed a lot better in their presentation. A lot more zoomed out and further away, sort of like OPs camera perspective. You could watch the cars coming through multiple corners and fly by. I think F1 zooms in way too much and changes the damn camera shot every other second it seems. I really like when they just stay on board for a while, but they never really do.

Live at the track you see 5% of the whole race track if you are lucky.

Me Japanese proud of watching LIVE F1 flying through Suzuka S'es every year since 2004.

I was lucky enough to experience a race live in 2006. The tv definitely fails to deliver how fast these cars are, but it is impossible to follow the standing on the track. :)

GP fans: “Yeah at the track I can’t follow the race at all”

Americans: “Well we solved that problem”

More spectator privilege if you watch in on tv, but my god nothing beats that live atmosphere 🥺❤️

if you think about it, this video only represents what it’s seen on tv

I remember sitting on the South Bank at Brands Hatch watching James Hunt in his Hesketh. And we parked out cars on the bank just behind us - getting back up the hill was an interesting experience for a lot of people. Luckily the circuit had plenty of tractors and tow trucks.

I appreciate both. I was just at the Austin GP and the energy of the crowd added a layer to the race!

I was sat at Copse in Silverstone this year. TV could NEVER replicate what you felt. It was absolutely phenomenal

The real life part missed the 1.5-2 minutes of waiting for the leaders to come back around.
