80s sparks were made by the drivers steel nuts grinding over the track

"Bit of metal called Kevlar" Yeah pretty sure Kevlar is not a metal of any kind.

One of the most visually pleasing things for an F1 fan... except from seeing Carlos Sainz on the TV

Since when did kevlar start getting called a metal?

Newbie F1 fan here. Came into it mid 2019 season. This was really awesome. The sparks actually caused me some anxiety not knowing the cause. Honestly don't know why I watch with my anxiety levels sometimes. Never shouted at my TV so much haha. But this will atleast calm the anxiety over sparks since I now know the cause. Ace! 😊

I've always had a question about this. Theoretically, these sparks are due to friction between the car and the track. Wouldn't this friction slow the car down by milliseconds perhaps? (Just curious)

It was definitely a spectacular sight to see when Indycars had sparks flying out from behind them for the first time during the 2004 Indianapolis 500. I recall that's the very first time the Indy 500 experienced something like that.

He said the word Spark 17 times, just to answer the Shot Challenge comments..

The “edited” was from me making each time 1 second behind so you can hear the word spark in its glory.
