Tech Tip: How to reset your Pro Tools I/O

In this edition of Sweetwater Tech Guides, one of the gurus from our award-winning Tech Support department will show you how to reset the I/O in Pro Tools. The I/O settings tell Pro Tools how many inputs and outputs are available on your interface so they can be properly routed and assigned to different tracks.

At 1:42 in the video, right at the end, the pop up menu shows your new I/O's and dozens of old unusable I/Os . My question is how do you get rid of the unusable ones so, in your case, only the usable 3 are seen in the pop up menu?

I really need help with something... I am having issues getting a signal to come directly from any track to my main 1-2 output. I have reset all settings multiple times, but I can only get audio after routing it through an AUX track, then to the 1-2 Output. If i go directly from one audio track to the 1-2 Output the master fader shows no signal whatsoever.

hey i have a question about panning i know about panning i pan most tracks some instrument tracks and vocals.i can hear when its panned but when i bounce the mix to hear the mix thru my phone/Via earplugs i cant hear no panning everything sounds like its in the center are there's a setting to get my panning to work correctly?

I went to I/0, thanks. Since I didn't want to mess with the tracks I'd already recorded before the gray-out, I just unclicked everything and hit "Okay." Then I hit default, the boxes checked again, and I hit Okay. And the grayed out faders came back to life. Why they went gray in the first place remains a mystery.

I got a Focusrite 18i20 from you and it's showing 20 inputs but none of them are Digital. I have an 8 channel ADAT mic pre hooked up and am getting signal thru it to the Focusrite Control, but can't get it to assign in PT. Help
