He missed one of the most important aspects. Do not buy routers which do not allow you to run 3rd party firmware. Just like how exploits are commonly found for windows, mac OS, and linux based OS, routers are also often exploited, thus they often receive security updates also. Suppose you buy a router with no 3rd party firmware, then when the company releases the router, and stops releasing updates after 6 months, then you now have a device in the middle of your network, likely with known exploits, and no updates (like with the massive list of routers that still have not been patched for the netUSB exploit).

With 3rd party firmware support, you at least have an option available after the company stops updating the router. You can run DD-WRT, OpenWRT, Tomato, or any other popular 3rd party firmware that is frequently updated.

10 yrs ago you could use the power wires in your home as internet lines...all part of the internet of things that is coming. You plug that new washer, fridge or smart car into the outlet and it updates the software, and also limits or charges more for off peak hours of use....

Great you guys want me to have all kinds of stuff, the router in my home is an almost like 10 year old Linksys router that has wireless G, yeah I don't think I'm getting the full potential out of my connection because I test about max 25 MBPS and our internet is supposed to be 50 MBPS even though the router says it supports up to 54 MBPS on it, but hey, it's fine with me, the only times it really slows down is when I'm uploading a video my other devices get slow, but I ain't uploading 24/7, but overall it works very well except that sometimes I have to reboot it because my devices won't connect to it properly sometimes.

Dong Ngo of CNET are just like "Linus of NCIX" (before he leaves) or "Paul of Newegg" (before he leaves too), i hope Dong Ngo didn't leave CNET because he's the one who make this channel fun to watch.
