Many thought the A380 was to be done and dusted in 2021 when Airbus announced plans to discontinue it with numerous airlines grounding the aircraft. But in the meantime, Singapore Airlines has returned all of its grounded A380’s to the skies over the past two years and has invested another huge sum of 850 million dollars in them. A clear indication that the airline has a long-term strategy in place for its A380’s.

I flew SQ’s A380 to London 2 weeks ago.. it’s a 14 hour flight and it was the best flight I ever had. It was the most stable flight with minimum or no turbulence throughout the flight. It’s also much quieter than other aircraft. A380s are my preferred aircraft for long haul flights.

No such word as aircrafts. The word is already plural.

Yes I love the A380!

I have flown A380 on Emirates, Qantas and Singapore. It's by far the most comfortable aircraft in the air. Serene, smooth, quiet and spacious. By comparison based on plenty of international flying, in my view the Boeing 787 Dreamliner is very ordinary, while the A350 is quieter, smoother and roomier than the 787, but still not as good as the A380. Good to hear this news.

Shortsightedness of the airlines who planed to scrap, not only ground, A380s at the start of Covid crisis is staggering.

Globalization was promising a great future in the '90s. I think, Europeans were anticipating an uplift in per capita income especially for China and India (over 3 billion people in total). That would trigger a sizable increase in Intercontinental Travel which A380 is built for. That would require dozens of A380s in service, which did not realize.
Another factor, security measures imposed by the US has destroyed the airlines, air travel became a torture. Tighter visa requirements, TSA, the pandemic also added to reduction in number of passengers in Intercontinental Travel.
A380 is a technological marvel and will come back in an Improved more efficient version.
Salute to those Engineers, Policy Makers, Managers and Bean Counters who created the A380

I love Singapore airline, it has "never" disappointed me!
Emirates, (chosen by my son), on my last trip (October 2023) to Italy in premium economy was a BIG DISAPPOINTMENT I won't ever use that airline again!

I’m just concerned about Boeing aircraft after recent news about its manufacturing issues and its processes to profit without thinking of the consequences of passengers making us at risk, now I personally prefer Airbus more!

Simply the best aircraft to fly long haul, nothing comes close to the 380 and if you can afford to travel in a premium cabin that experience becomes even better.

I don’t know if bringing back the A380 from mothballing is a display of SQ’s “commitment to the A380”, it’s more like they don’t have a choice but to fly it as soon as business is ticking up as they are still paying the bank financing/lease every month. Airbus has stopped developing A380’s due to the industry shift towards smaller, more fuel efficient aircrafts. This limited desirability of the A380 in today’s aviation climate, combined with the limited set of airlines that even has the passenger volume to fill up A380’s means that there is little venue of resale, and SQ/EK has no choice but to keep operating them until the end of their useful life. My two cents.

The Airbus A380 has a lot to offer and many more.
But during the pandemic, i was sad to see and read about the haste that the airlines take to to retire the aircradt and aome scrap the A380..
But some airlines can see potential in the A380...

A380’s are really only flown on routes where the volume of seats on the aircraft can be economically sold at prices that justify this size of plane. They do have a higher operating cost than the more recent wide body twin jets such as the 787 Dreamliner and the A350 when measured on $ of fuel per passenger mile. They can be useful in airports which are operating close to max capacity in terms of aircraft/hr. Emirates and Singapore both have this dynamic in their hubs. The focus on amenities and fit out is not really the core issue, it’s the raw economics of 4 engine jets versus 2 engine jets that is the deciding factor for most operators.
