I don’t get body building (I’d never heard the term hypertrophy until you said it) especially taken to extremes, BUT I’m a 76 year old competitive o-lifter and I love your posts on strength, nutrition and your stream of consciousness meanders into god knows what outrageousness. Exactly. I worked out for nearly six months with no results. Started consuming way more calories and the muscles ballooned out and the fat fell off.

As Dr. Mike just expressed, I’m the guy who went from around 120lbs to 150lbs.

Consumed 3000 calories per day with a high intensity training program.

Running in to old friends and being told “WOW YOU’RE JACKED! WHAT HAPPENED?!” Was a surprising side effect.

I had to lower my training volume to accommodate an injury some months back but I’m back on track and just a few pounds off that 150 mark once again.

This time around, I’ve lowered my calories by 300 per day as I noticed that I was gaining slightly more body fat than desired.

You guys can do it. Just train hard, eat big and sleep well.

My next goal is to reach 155lbs, then 160lbs!

I met tons of guys with amazing genetics who didn't eat properly for their first couple years of lifting and they literally exploded in size. Unfortunately the rest of us gotta put in the work

After the “ I can’t gain weight” statement, I ask how many calories are you eating per day?
The answer always is “ I don’t know”🤷🏻‍♂️.

Im 41 now I was 130lbs at 38yo and started trt I got more muscle definition but no weight gain. Then I started packing on the calories from protein to carbs to fatty foods everything I also added 3-4 14-16oz glasses of chocolate milk per day now now 3 years later from 38 to 41 I’m a solid 175lbs it’s all about the calories.

As a power lifter with a crazy metabolism I have found that spreading that protein intake across the day in 2 to 2.5 hour intervals is optimal in packing on the pounds. I stay hungry now…was 119 lbs and am finally approaching the 150 mark after all these damn years
