Here is one major difference between an a**hole and a narcissist: An a**hole at some point, will still realize the consequences of their actions and feel some level of guilt even if they dont apologize. A narcissist will not. Because in a narcissist's world, there is nothing wrong with them. Hence, no apologies. Maybe you apologize to them.

I ABSOLUTELY 💯 agree with what you're saying!! I believe the term "Narcissist" is becoming a catch all phrase and is being overused in today's society. Whether the internet is creating or just exposing much more narcissism, we have to be careful about "internet diagnosing" or naming every and anyone who displays narcissistic tendencies a Narcissist! I'm definitely sharing this so more can know the difference 😊

Thanks for this. I'd love to hear more on this, to help give us tools to advocate for ourselves. In the past I've failed at trying to explain to multiple people why a certain person wasn't an a$$hole, they were abusive to me, and why it's important that there is a difference.

After spending the weekend with my narcissistic Alzheimer’s mother and watching her physically be unavailable to apologize to my sister who she has made cry because she is an asshole, I was reminded why I went no contact with her a couple years ago and why I only came to help my sister and not her.
My uncle then told us she has been that way her whole life, which explains her even more.
This time when she started making a dig at either my sister or my brother in her classic game of pitting us agist each other, i just shut her down and not very nicely either. I was definitely the peacemaker child and it breaks her brain that i was talking back and not being the one she could always get on her side.
Note: I was there because my dad was in the hospital and mom has to be watched so she takes her meds correctly and doesn’t play in traffic…
