Softener leads to machine failure

We switched to vinegar a couple months back and were super pleased. Soft clothes, only the tiniest scent of vinegar when we first open the machine and none on the clothes themselves. We also switched to wool dryer balls instead of dryer sheets. Does the job way cheaper and you just leave the balls in the dryer when you take the clothes out so you don't have to remember to put the sheet in every load.

Every now and then run the washing machine and add a cup or two of white vinegar in it with NO CLOTHES and NO DETERGENT, just water and vinegar, it will help keep it clean. This was a tip a Sears repair guy told my mom over 45 yrs ago and it works.

I stopped using fabric softner about a year ago, but my washer still had so much residue built up from it stuck in the compartment where you put it in. Took it apart to clean properly and it was like wax, warm water didn't melt it or help, had to scrape it off. Didn't dare pour it down the sink in case it blocked the drain too, so I used paper towels and binned it. If it doesn't melt in hot water imagine what it's doing to your machine and clothes.

I started using vinegar as fabric softener and as an all purpose cleaner in my home about a year ago and I'll NEVER go back. It's truly a miracle cleanser

Also, open the lid on your washer when you’ve finished your laundry. This helps prevent fungus growth and bacteria from growing and allows the drum to dry out

Problem also seems to be that people just use TOO MUCH fabric softener. A little dab will do ya, too much will screw ya.

Vinegar can sometimes damage rubber gaskets and sealings

Also vinegar is a great way to clean microfibers without damaging the sensitive threads.
