Sustainable Minimalist Christmas

Christmas can be a lovely time of the year, but it's also often a wasteful time. As a minimalist the commercialized Christmas as many people celebrate it, can be hard to deal with. When you try to live a more sustainable lifestyle all year it just doesn't feel right to be wasteful around the holidays. So in this video I'm sharing my tips on how to make Christmas a little bit more sustainable. I'm not claiming I came up with all these tips, this is just a collection of what I came across over the years and would recommend.
The topics I'm covering in this video are: exchanging gifts, decoration and food.
It's challenging to give advice about gift giving because it's super personal. So I'm giving advice based on what I would enjoy as a minimalist. I would suggest seeing if there are items you/the other person needs or want to replace. Consumables are also always a great gift. This can be food, but also shower or beauty products, books, donations, gift cards or subscriptions.
In terms of decorations, I don't have that much advice. I would recommend using what you have and if you need something new, see if you can find it second hand.
Christmasfood is really delicious and a big part of the festivities in many families. I would suggest to see if there can be a few vegetarian or vegan options on the table to have a lower impact and be kind to our animals :)
Portion control and making sure no food is thrown in the trash is a big impact you can have this Christmas.
With all that said, I think the most important thing is to focus on what Christmas is about for you, whether that's being with your family or something else. Don't focus on the extras around it so much.
I hope you enjoyed watching this video and I wish you a lovely holiday season ahead!
