Durdle Door - Jurassic Coast | Dorset | UK | Travel Guide

Показать описание
Durdle Door - This place is a paradise!
It is not a location from a fairy tale, but a naturally formed rock arch on the Jurassic Coast in Dorset.
Despite being real, Durdle Door could have come out of a fantasy. The stunning cliffs, long sandy beaches, and beautiful limestone arch were exactly what I least expected to find in England.
Durdle Door is one of those places that is on most people’s UK bucket list, mainly because it is one of the most photographed places in the UK. This part of the Jurassic Coast (Dorset and East Devon Coast) is England’s only Natural World Heritage Site after being awarded the status by UNESCO in December 2001.
Okay, here are few tips if you are planning a visit DURDLE DOOR:
• Try to visit during the UK spring / summer time. March to September should be a good time to visit Durdle door , but if you want warmer weather to swim in the sea try to between July to September.
• Choose a nice sunny day as you will appreciate the deep blue water and the green hills more! excellent for photos as well.
• To get to the Durdle Door arch and beach, you will have to walk down from the car park located on the cliff top at Durdle Door Holiday Park. Plan your journey ahead as the walk down the hill and back up to the car park could take hours hence you might want to reach in good time to get the most out of the day. The shops are at the top of the Park therefore carry food and plenty of water. Wear comfortable clothing and footwear (and beach sandals if you need- those pebbles are sharp!), and don’t forget some coins for parking if you arrive via car.
• Swimming and water sports are allowed- Water quality of the beach is marked as excellent by the Marine Conservation society and it is part of the Jurassic coast UNESCO world heritage site.
• If you are planning to go there by Car, then the postcode is BH205PU. There is a decent sized car park at Durdle Door beach but even when we arrived at 9.30 am, it was busy. If you want to visit during the peak summer season, you will need to arrive early.
• If you are planning to go by train, the nearest railway station is Wool (on the London Waterloo to Weymouth line on SouthWestern Railway). From Wool Station, you can take bus numbers 15, 30, X55 and X54 to West Lulworth for Lulworth Cove or you can take a taxi.
• There are no facilities at the beach except for the car park. During the summer months you will find a snack kiosk. You can access public toilets at Durdle Door Holiday Park which is a couple of minutes walk from the car park.
• As you can never fully rely on the British weather, we recommend packing some lightweight rain coats just in case.
• There are steps down to Durdle Door beach which unfortunately makes it inaccessible for wheelchairs.
• When you go, take a moment to sit and enjoy the view from the top over Durdle Door. It is truly beautiful.
I have to say that even though we have visited lots of incredible places around the world on our travels, we were still blown away by the sheer beauty of Durdle Door.
This guide to visiting Durdle Door aims to give you everything you need to know to help you get the most out of your visit to this incredible place.
