Dorset's Jurassic Coast - Durdle Door

Today Dave Ford and myself are heading off to one of my favourite places on Earth: Durdle Door.

Durdle Door is a natural limestone arch on the Jurassic Coast near Lulworth in Dorset, England.
It is privately owned by the Welds, a family who owns 12,000 acres in Dorset in the name of the Lulworth Estate. It is open to the public. The name Durdle is derived from the Old English word ‘thirl' meaning bore or drill.

My dad brother’s had two caravans at Durdle Door site in the late 50s and early 60s . My dad and uncle and myself use to walk down to Durdle Door beach most night so I could throw stones in to the sea, so when I see this part of Dorset it brings back happy memories

I used to holiday at Durdle Door Campsite in the early 70s... Some of my happiest childhood memories. The green hills above the beech path sat looking over to swanage, the sound of skylarks in my ears, taste of strawberry mivi on my lips from a little ice cream van that used to park half way down the steep path..we stayed in a Static van. Pepsi & juke boxes, candy floss & Weymouth boatswings...the smell of clotted cream from the dairy farm above the campsite. Lots of rabbits...wonderful.

Another place that's been on my 'to visit' list for a long time... I love how it resembles a horse's neck and head bending to drink. Yet another great video, thanks guys!

Ive never made it down to the beach the two times I've been, as one time they were repairing the steps when i went in the summer and the other time the weather was so grotty when went in the autumn. Thank you Dave and Richard for taking me down to the beach with you. Wonderful azure sea, love Durdle Door!

I really enjoyed the Jurassic Coast when the British Bride took me there -- missed the Durdle Door, however! Well, you can't see everything at once, but I will be sure to visit this location when we're down there next time! Thanks for telling about this interesting feature, Richard! And thanks to Dave Ford as well!

Superb video Richard. Such a stunning place. There are some very impressive sea stacks and arches over in Etretat on the Normandy coast which are well worth a visit if you ever get the chance.
