Tuxedo OS – Perfect Linux Experience | 30-Day Review

A quick look at my daily driver that I have been using for the past 30 days. Tuxedo OS is the perfect collaboration between form and function. Paired with the Pulse 15 Gen 2 Tuxedo laptop, it doesn’t get any better than this. Take a look and let me know what you think in the comments below.

When I started at a new company recently, they had two laptop options, some Mac with a 16GB main memory and a Lenovo that neither was too impressive. Since I wanted to use Linux and the DELL XPS machines had started to be really expensive, I proposed to get a Tuxedo Pulse 15 Gen1. My company spent a lot less on that much better speced out machine. I can attest that the build quality and the typing experience are just great. I usually go for some Arch based distro, so I did not spend a lot of time with Tuxedo OS itself, but seeing your video makes me wonder if I should give it another shot... I can adjust Ubuntu to my liking, it is just that I don't like using apt at all...

The you tube algorithm lead me to you. I am running Tuxedo OS 2 on a Focus M2 15.6 laptop. I could not be happier with the OS running KDE. You are right, it is zippy. I'm a front-end developer running multiple IDEs. Everything just works. Great video. I have liked, subscribed and rung that bell!

Been daily driving Tuxedo OS for a couple of weeks now. Totally loving it. There is so much control.

Thanks for the 411, as always. Think I'll wait until Tuxedo OS 2 comes out so I'll be able to run a more current Plasma. That's the primary reason I didn't run MX Linux very long: They've got KDE 5.20. Tried for 2 days, including every suggestion on the MX Forum. Right now running KDE 5.26.9 on Siduction. Thanks, again, for all you do, Troy.

Pretty sure either Framework or Tuxedo will be my next laptop purchase. Then either with their OS or Kubuntu, just depends on which I get.

Video idea - You always ask about HTOP and fall back to TOP if it's not available.
On the Steamdeck it has a BTOP which probably covers same things but has a different layout.
Could you do a short video about the differences and what we should be looking at for us new people to Linux?
Keep the vids coming and I'll be watching!!! Yes Steamdeck is my entry to Linux.

Hi 😃
i run a Tux Stellaris with Cachy - these guys are incredible! Installing TCC from the AUR is a nobrainer. The system runs like hell. TuxOS is great too. - my girlfriend runs it on her Tux. Simple out of the box. A perfect daily driver for people with jobs 😃

TuxedoOS and PopOS are honestly the best linux distros, in my experience. Obviously, some of that credit does go to the Ubuntu base.

Shame that tuxedo laptops don’t ship to Australia yet

This OS looks like a definite Mint killer.

Well, I guess I found the frontrunner for replacing Windows 10 in 2025. This looks easier than Garuda, and Garuda was ridiculously easy compared to my first experience with Linux. (I haven't touched Linux since 2009, and that was just curiosity)

How much of % uses Tuxedo of the CPU? I have an similar being it the Ryzen 5700G and on gaming the CPU is used already up to 65%. Windows 11 gets slowly to heavy for 8 core CPU's.
So the RAM it uses is about below 3 GB on your Tuxedo. I have 24 GB installed and it uses on Windows 11 on normal use about just below 10 GB.
How resource intensive is Tuxedo OS?
It is to future proof my CPU's and I have some old laptops where I plan to put on Tuxedo since those are office laptops. All those laptops are Toshiba or Dell from 2012 and have all an i7 cuad core CPU with hyperthreading and 4 GB of DDR3 RAM. Is 4 GB of RAM good enough for Tuxedo OS or does it make problems? I am new to Linux and have no clue what to do with the command line (I used only Windows till date).
What about gaming? Is Heroes and Generals running on Tuxedo OS? If yes I throw Windows out of all my desktop PC's (one with the Ryzen 5700G and the other one with the Ryzen 5900X, one with 24 GB RAM and the other one with 32 GB) and run only Tuxedo OS on everything.
Does Tuxedo OS need updates? Are the updates guaranteed by Tuxedo GmbH? Or do companies let the users in the dry when they get bankrupt or something?

Not exactly a perfect experience for me. Don't get me wrong, I love the interface. But the installer for this consistently crashes on my 5900X/ RTX3060TI rig.

Checksum fine, installed fine on two other machines. SAME RIG boots on a transplanted install from a 1700 / GTX1650 setup, and swapping my RTX3060TI for the 1700's GTX1650 allows the installer to run, so the problem seems to be with identifying my GPU (an LHR Asus KO version).

However, other issues with DVD playback (drive can be seen, but not mounted) and OpenRGB failing to see my Corsair setup are also a problem.

Mint Cinnamon solved the DVD playback problem, but I prefer Tuxedo's interface. It's quite likely that Cinnamon is substituting GTX1650 drivers or using generic Nvidia drivers, which means my RTX3060TI is not being fully utilized.
