Okay, these are my notes that I mostly copied & pasted from various Tuxedo OS links.

Tuxedo OS 4

Tuxedo Computers was founded on February 1, 2004. The name derives from the Linux mascot Tux, whose feathers resemble a tuxedo.

With Tuxedo OS (proper spelling: TUXEDO OS), Tuxedo Computers develops its own Linux distribution based on Ubuntu. The first version was released on September 29, 2022.

KDE's outstanding applications and tools

Why does TUXEDO OS not support Snap?

What are the differences between TUXEDO OS and Ubuntu/Kubuntu?

Presented: KDE's outstanding applications and tools

Other than a custom color theme, which can be easily changed, Tuxedo OS makes no major changes to KDE Plasma.

Tuxedo OS has an unusual two-step installation process. When booting off of a USB drive containing the installation ISO, users are first presented with a setup process for the installer. After going through several steps, the actual installer runs.

** Mine asked language and internet, X or Wayland & then appears to reboot. Still necessary to enter all the same information on install as well as at the sddm login screen.

Tuxedo Control Center full functionality is only compatible with Tuxedo’s own computers. Non-Tuxedo hardware will likely not benefit from Tomte, (Tomte, Tuxedo’s utility to help install and configure drivers).

12 reasons for TUXEDO Computers

WebFAI: WebFAI, or Fully Automated Installation, is a tool from TUXEDO Computers that automatically installs Linux operating systems on TUXEDO devices. (Looks alot like balena-etcher)

KDE Plasma v: 6.2.3
x11 server: X.Org v: 21.1.11 with: Xwayland
PipeWire v: 1.2.4

Firefox, which comes pre-installed as a .deb package

Installed by default: neofetch inxi htop flatpak

Software:

qps - Visual Process Manager (man qps)

qlipper - Lightweight and cross-platform clipboard history applet

Potential cons:

AI Overview: While Tuxedo OS is generally considered a good Linux distribution, some potential downsides include: limited hardware compatibility outside of Tuxedo Computers' own hardware, a smaller community compared to mainstream Linux distros, and potentially less readily available support for certain niche software or configurations; essentially, it's optimized primarily for Tuxedo brand computers, which can limit flexibility for users with different hardware setups.

Key points about potential drawbacks of Tuxedo OS:

Hardware-specific optimization:
The primary criticism is that Tuxedo OS is heavily tailored to work best on Tuxedo Computers' hardware, which could lead to compatibility issues if you try to install it on a different machine.
Smaller community:
As a less widely used distribution compared to Ubuntu or Fedora, the Tuxedo OS community is smaller, which might mean fewer available resources and support options for troubleshooting complex issues.
Limited software selection:
While most essential software is likely available, users might encounter situations where specialized software or drivers might not be readily supported due to the smaller user base.
Potential learning curve:
Even though Tuxedo OS is considered user-friendly, anyone new to Linux might still face a learning curve when setting it up and navigating its features.

stat / | grep "Birth" | sed 's/Birth: //g' | cut -b 2-11

Package count: dpkg --list | wc --lines

screenfetch && dpkg --list | wc --lines && cat /etc/os-release && inxi -AG

Okay so I install Tuxedo OS on hardware and have ran it 8 days now or so. I have only found good experiences with the system as well as Plasma powered by KDE. I am the xfce fan man. But if Xfce disappeared today then this would be the first I checked out.

It is based on Debian, Ububtu LTS so one can only expect that the system will run smoothly.

So, thanks for watching and let me know about your journey with Tuxedo OS.

I have been running Tuxedo OS on my Dell Precision T1700 for the last six months and it runs very nicely.Although it is based on Ubuntu 24.04 now it runs with the 6.11 kernel.
