How to Plug a Tire

In this video I'll show you how easy it is to plug a hole in your tire, using an $8 repair kit.

This method does not fully deflate the tire and can get you out of a dangerous spot so you can properly repair or change the tire in a safe place. I have used this method to reliably repair at least a dozen tires. Be sure to watch the whole video and read the disclaimer below.

Note: this video is for instructional purposes only. Any repair you make is at your own risk. The damage to this tire was in the sidewall and so, it should be replaced. However, the repair got me back home and is still holding air after 5 days. #repairtire #plugatire #howtofixatire

Really helpful and great video. I shared this with both my kids who now drive and I think I'm going to order one of these kits for all four of our cars. (I found you from your Odyssey bed build + van conversion videos which are also great.)

0:58 I appreciate that you threw the nail on the ground, in consideration of the next tire that needed a puncture, j/k

Good video...I recommend to everyone that they buy and carry one of these tire repair kits (and a tire inflator). "If it doesn't work, you'll never see this video."....best line I've heard in a while!

Thanks for the lesson - it does look a lot easier than changing the tire. After a major hail storm a few months ago everyone in my neighborhood is getting their roofs re-shingled. I've added it to my Amazon cart and hope I won't need to use it, but am ready if I do.

Great job on the video! That was simple and easy. Much appreciated Odyssey!

So I said to my go-to mechanic of many years that I would be happy to pay him cash(thus waiving his responsibility) to fix the nail in the same area as your tire, and he just plainly declined. Instead he suggested me to spend over 170 Cdn each for replacement. What a jackass! Luckily I have acquired the skill from you so I don't have to beg anyone again.
Thank you for your kind demonstration dear Odyssey Camper.

Great video. Any time I have screw in tires not ready to be replaced I have plugged them with no issue lasting a year or more. Never on a sidewall only one time was kind of close and no issues

What size tire can you use on the lift kit without changing rim size

This is great, thank you. I got a tire repair kit for $15 at O’Reilly Auto Parts and have a screw in the exact same place on the shoulder. Going to plug it, rubber cement it, and patch it instead of paying $600 to replace the tire.

would this work if it was a screw instead of a nail in the tire?

I carry this, but looks like it may take more strength than I have. What about those foams that go inside tire?

Thanks, very good video!
How many kilometers/miles did you drive with the tire?
What speed was he driven?
Were there any problems?

Thanks, Darren! Have watched it done at the tire shop but never tried. Seems kind of hard to reem and even harder to plug. I've watched experienced guys do it and not sure I would have the strentgh. Seems simple enough otherwise.
