Concept of royalty in this specific case only applies if you make your own music album label and sell it through music distributors independently to the consumers directly. For every song they use of yours, they have to pay. It is a B2C model, that's why you pay royalty. In the case of indian cinema, royalty does not exist because Illaiyaraja isn't making music as independent artist but as a paid service to a producer. So his music rights have already been sold to a producer for good money that illayairaja has already been paid for. If anyone can ask for royalty, its the producer since he has the music rights. Even if you talk about goodwill of giving money to fellow musicians, why doesn't he pay and contribute from his own money to support the musicians. He has literally been paid millions by various producers. You mean he can't afford to donate a small amount? The fact is he is greedy and his own brother claims that Illaiyaraja is a vindictive character that does not like any musician greater than him to grow.
