I have the charge. Put it on it's side and/or 1-2" from a wall or hard surface and you will get drastically better sound. It's like the vibrations from the lower frequencies get lost without something for them to bounce off of.

Thanks for the review. For portability I would recommend the JBL Flip. It has excellent sound and is more compact. For the biggest sound vs portability, have you seen the JBL Xtreme? That thing ROCKS!!!

How do these compare in sound to the B&O Beosound A1 2nd Gen.

I have had the charge 2 and loved it, rn I got the Pulse 3 (have been using it since 2018) and honestly I kinda see some disadvantages on the pulse, the charge will drastically decrease after a few months of use, you barely gonna get 5hrs on that, I don't find an option to turn off the lighta to save the battery, I just ordered the charge 5 coz it's cheaper, lighter, and you will not notice any difference in sound when you don't have both to compare. Do for me after owning both I think Charge 5 is clear.

I almost bought the pulse 5 cuz of reading the comments here till I put my earphones on to really hear the difference in the sound tests. Charge wins soundwise. Pulse looks cool tho. 😢

Surprisingly, the Charges sounded a little tinny to me for some reason. I preferred the Pulse.

Why wasn't the Charge 5 held upright for more fair bass comparison?

Pulse 5 produces a cleaner and harder sound than the charge 5. I'd rather take the pulse than the charge

The reason why the pulse “sounds better” is because it has the 360 degree audio output. The charge 5 is more output towards the front of the speaker. If you listen closely the charge 5 has better base than the pulse 5. Also the pulse 5 was standing upright and the bass was getting boosted by the table, the charge 5 didn’t have that.
