So this is the JBL Pulse 5… now there are some cosmetic improvements here from the Pulse 4… but more importantly, the Pulse 5 has an upgraded speaker set up which personally I am impressed by cause of the Pulse 5’s vertical design. Nonetheless, let's see what the Pulse 5 is all about and let's see if this new speaker setup comapres to both the Pulse 4 and Pulse 3.

The Pulse 3 may not be as "showy" but ive had that speaker for a couple years now and it has done the job!

Got the Pulse 5 for this Christmas it's a brilliant speaker in my opinion

I like that the Pulse 5 has cleaner sound than the other 2, but it’s a little less practical. I like the added latch on it, but I also like being able to pause, play and change the volume on my Pulse 4. I wish the Pulse 5 had both🙁…

The crazy thing is they could have gave the Pulse 4 some of the same light features with a software update smh. I'll just keep my 4 until it dies or gets lost. No reason to upgrade to the 5.

Hey, just adding an additional comment to my first one. I ended up buying the Pulse 5 to try. The demo model in the store wasn't working, so since they had a couple in stock, I picked one up to compare to the Pulse 3 with music I'm familiar with. I have to say the Pulse 5 sounds better for Acoustic based music, which is primarily what I listen to, such as country, bluegrass, folk, gospel, etc. The Pulse 3, does have a warmer sound, but it also sounds more muffled, when it comes to clarity in the finer details. The one gripe I have with JBL speakers as a whole is, there is no stereo separation in a single speaker unit. I have a cheaper ONN Rugged Large speaker and it has stereo sound, even though it's not that wide. It does make a difference though for clarity. With that said though, JBL makes good speakers, and I'm happy with both, but if I had been able to test in store, I probably wouldn't have bought it.

Hi, just subscribed to your channel this morning. Really find your content helpful, especially when it comes to comparison information between products. I have a JBL Pulse 3, got it right before the Pulse 4 came out, or slightly after, anyway I'm still happy with it, and it works well, it actually got a software update last year, or maybe it was the beginning of this year, don't remember off hand now, since it was a while back. Anyway, based on your info in this video, sounds like the Pulse 3 has features that have been taken away in newer models such as the audio port, and controls. With this said, it doesn't sound like I really don't have a compelling reason to upgrade, as this speaker is mainly just casually used maybe every few months, etc.

For me, the Pulse 4 sounds the best, dunno if that's just me. Would love a comparison in sound of all Pulse generations as well, since the 1 and 2 had a whole different setup in terms of light feature and JBL removed the app support for the 1 some time ago sadly😢

Idk if you said it in the video but how long does the speaker lights stay on idled, I know the pulse 3 stay on for 15 minutes without inactivity

Very detailed review, thanks. I've been enjoying 2 x Pulse 4 for the last couple of years and it's quite a shame that it is now discontinued. Interested in Pulse 5, but what a bummer that it doesn't have any controls. I am still going to purchase one though.

Hey! The JBL Xtreme 3 got a software update, and the sound was improved to definitely set it apart from the charge 5.
Will we have a video on it 😁?

Would be interesting to see the metered differences in an outdoor setting?

Well at least the Pulse 5 is pretty good in sound quality. At least JBL Didn't pull a A Sony XE300😅 Looking forward to your review on the LG XG9qbk that also has a impressive light show as well

since i have both i can say if you want lights then get the pulse 5 but realize that the sound is pretty bad compared to any other JBL speaker. if you want sound just get the flip 6 or charge 5. personally id say the charge 5 because the battery life is so good it last 3 days without charge. if you dont care about sound and you can play it low without worrying about the muffle sound then the light ones are fine but it would not really rely on the pulse 5 as a sound speaker.

If you paired 2 Pulse 5s in Stereo could they then connect through party boost to a boombox 3? So that the pulses stay in stereo along with the addition of the bb3 being synced?

Does it charge while it's playing music??

Am I missing it or there's no Play/+/- buttons on the Pulse 5? So everything must be controlled from the playing device? That kills it for me if that's the case.
