The next track from my Debut EP is out!! I am so excited for you to finally hear this song, it means a lot to me! We've worked super hard on these so please do save to your Spotify playlists and stream them on your commute. Who doesn't need a lil feminine rage on the way to work/school right?

Lyrics:

A Women with a knowing smile caught my eye
She sat there with a drink alone
The Barkeep says they call her original sin
The very first scapegoat when the trouble set in

Mother to the millions but queen to none
She sits and sips her drink unfazed
Barkeep says they'll take her away in a bit
She overstepped and now must pay for her sins

The court is gathered
Judge sits low
But round the room
The jury know
Gods not gonna help you now my girl

So save your prayers

Legions of daughters those that you fought for happily curse your name now
Drink from the cup girl and in another world history sings the same vow
Ruled by religion they speak but we listen and offer a lamb to the slaughter
Easy to lay the blame onto her alter as mother dies for daughter

Self righteousness rooted inside your home kid can't help but follow their lead
Mothers curse mothers daughters curse daughters and so the cycle repeats
Villainize victims slave to a system collecting kindling for our kin.
The fire we drop at your feet and we leave
Please don't cry for your daughters Eve

Please don't cry for your daughters Eve
Please don't cry for your daughters Eve

Just as the Barkeep said a mob came to call
And took her from her place of rest
She stood and walked herself right out of the door
A path she'd walked so many many times before

I was frozen couldn't move from my seat
You think you'd be a saviour but can't do as you preach
Eve I'm sorry you must take the fall for their shame
I'd help you but I risk taking your place

Mother Maiden Crone
Goddess God-less all alone
Medusa and the flesh
Punished for another's mess
So you'll take the fall
For standing just an inch too tall
When the bell doth toll
The ringing calls out for us all

Temptress siren witch
Anne she stands without a stitch
A lesson never learned
Speak too loud we'll see you burn
And your reflection seems
To look a whole lot like that Eve
When the bell doth toll
The ringing calls out for us all
The ringing calls out for us all!

Legions of daughters those that you fought for happily curse your name now
Drink from the cup girl and in another world history sings the same vow
Ruled by religion they speak but we listen and offer a lamb to the slaughter
Easy to lay the blame onto her alter as mother dies
And dies and dies and dies and dies and dies and dies and
Dies and dies and dies and dies and dies and dies and dies and dies and dies
Please don't cry for your daughters
Eve

“I’d help you, but I risk taking your place” Hit way too close to home :(

The tired look in Eve's eyes after she's freed is because this scenario has already happened to her countless times and will continue to happen :')

“Mothers curse daughters, daughters curse daughters, and so the cycle repeats” stuck in my head

I like that it’s not Lydia saving the woman but that little girl… it’s just cool because most say they’d do something and like to think they would but realistically a lot would probably be to scared to help.

The mother shushing the little girl when she first reached forward to defend Eve destroyed me. How many of us have been silenced (metaphorically and literally) by the women who raised us? Whatever the motivation, it’s heartbreaking.

I literally just finished writing an essay on the female literary archetypes throughout history… she’s so often only ever a pure virgin or a mother— if not she’s a “temptress, siren, witch”

Edit: sorry to everyone saying they want to read it— it was hand written (to help prevent again students using AI apparently 🙄) and I’m not about to transcribe it lmao

I have a theory that Eve's expression at the end is not necessarily a 'happening again to her many times' but more of a representation of the continuation of women being treated and punished so harshly - that it never ended, it was a cycle.

What I find really interesting is that the lyrics are not especially hopeful in the end, but the animation is. Up to us to decide which one we want to follow ...

“Villainize victims, slaves to the system” kept making me cry. I really felt that so deeply

The part where the song says " so you'll take the fall for standing just an inch to tall" hit me so hard because metaphorically I feel I try my best not to also literally I am tall compared to all the boys

“Villainize victims, slaves to the system” hits so hard. Especially since women can be villainised for being a victim which is not right at all and how women can be slaves to a system that doesn’t favour them. This song is amazing and the animatic is gorgeous!

This song tells the truth in every sense of the word. No matter what women do, we're forever scorned. Damned if we do, damned if we don't. I genuinely started crying while the song went on because it struck home in such a powerful way. Women tearing each other down, people around us tearing us down, you captured every bit of the struggle perfectly. This song is absolutely incredible. Much love, Lydia! ❤

THIS WAS AMAZING, I LOVED WHEN ANA BOLENE, JOANNE DARC AND A FEW MORE WOMEN APPEARED, THAT WAS PERFECT!!!!

It did not click on me until now that the line "She stood and walked herself right out of the door. A path she'd walked so many many times before" was a reference of how she was kicked out of Eden but also on how many other groups, mostly religious, see her as a villain rather than the victim she was. Tricked for the first time and it cost her everything and had to pay it by working every single day of her life until she kicked the bucket at 930. Heck there are versions of the myth where Eve was sentenced to Hell while Adam ascended to the Heavens even if both ate the apple at the end of the day

There is an apology posted about this video for not including backing vocals and help with production by other ethnicities, and I would like to say specifically to Lydia as an African American woman that this is perfect. Sure, the team COULD have had other ethnicities, but it’s not about how it was made, it’s about why. Noting that she also did not fail to include the other ethnic groups in the animatic, but the vocal team was what she was able to do. I feel that a lot more people should appreciate the message of this masterpiece rather than criticize what wasn’t done. This song will definitely be one for the books, please keep up the good work Lydia! Looking forward to see more like this! From a woman who is fully aware of what we came from, this song will definitely be a staple for a lot of women to come. This is the lord’s work, and you delivered a message with more meaning than the word count to the lyrics 🩵

This is now my favorite song. It so beautifully and accurately depicts how women are scorn for everything we do no matter what that thing is we do. And not just people tearing us down but other women too.

I like that in the end, even though she is "saved" by some of her daughters, Eve is still heartbroken by the betrayal of the others and the fact that she knows that history repeat itself T-T thank you for such a beautiful song
