It was probably pretty scary if you were on the Southwest Airlines flight. This happened, too.

Thank you very much for explaining this! Great video and it really helped me understand exactly what was going wrong. It’s difficult to wrap my head around so many forces acting at the same time (because I’m unfamiliar with aviation).

Correction as a side slip occurs due to say turbulence or a gusty wind the side with the lower wing has more area exposed to relative wind and creates more lift due to strong lateral stability as said with more lift comes more drag and with this drag comes a yawing motion that exposes the left side of the vertical stabilizer to more relative wind which tries to point the plane back to its original heading but it's weak so it overshoot causing a cycle of dutch rolling

Fly formation with the angle of bank indicator using only ailerons. No more dutch Roll. I'm a SME in aviation

Would lowering the pitch ( I'm not a pilot) stop this roll? Does this happen often? I am so afraid of flying. I've never heard of this.

Hi! I'm a video producer with the NY Post and I saw your Dutch Roll explainer video and was wondering if we could have your permission to use that video, with a credit to your name or YT channel? Please let me know! Thanks - Alex

Ok, I seriously can’t believe this guy is actually trying to explain a Dutch-roll (in the most technical way possible) like we’re supposed to be future pilots…make it make sense 🤷🏾‍♂️
