You guys think sound dampener is more effective above the deck lid facing up, or below facing down towards the trunk?

I just coated my floor pan and interior body panels with butyl rubber and it’s all apart but I wanna make sure very little drone gets through. I’ve highly been considering this MLV stuff because the car is apart and I really only got one shot right now to cover the car. I just really don’t wanna bite the bullet and drop so much money on this car. I’ve already spent 100$ on the rubber and 130 on a new stereo system. Trying to get that mlv quality for a low price. Can’t really find it.

Hey guys! Great Info! …It got me wondering tho - Obviously these (combined MLV/CCF) sheets are great with the low frequency rumbling sounds of a car or truck engine but what’s the deal with higher frequencies? - HINT: I’m imagining a struggling motor “tick-tick-tick-tick-ing” being around a similar area (Hz) as 16th notes on a closed high hat for instance! - If your picking up what I’m putting down?

haven't found any comparison between this MLV and using closed foam glued to the aluminum foil directly, can you comment on it? I mean, installation work for DIY seems MUCH easier with the foam. I debating if the work needed for the MLV is actually worth it. Plus, the foam has some airborne noise absorption too, could that maybe compensate for the performance difference with the MLV?

This looks like a good product, but realistically, you aren't going to make an old rattle trap sound like a Lexus. You can make your car quieter with this technology, but you need to have realistic expectations. It won't be silent, just nicer.

Is this too heavy to have above a vehicle headliner?

A “premium car feel” is created by very much more extensive reasons vs whats stuck to the metal floor.

Strip the carpet from a current Merc S-Class (S400H), and you will see mostly a bare metal floor with patches of damping in certain areas, and the usual thick insulation underneath the carpet. Nothing unusual.

The premium car feel starts from the chassis design, suspension design and how the suspemsion is attached to the chassis. When Hyundai started for the first time to incorporate huge rear subframe bushings (as on most premium Continental SUVs) on their Santa Fe, WOW!!!!...the Korean SUV started to ride like a premium European vehicle. So, its not as simple as mftrs putting insulation materials and esp Mass Loaded Vinyl on the floor. On the 5 and 7 series BMWs including the latest X3 and X5 BMWs, there ZERO mlv on the floor. On all current Mercedes and Porsches, there are ZERO mlv on the floors.

Additionally, the premium car feel is also hugely contributed by the type of foam within the seats. Seats are critical for conveying that tactile sensation to your body. If you’re blindfolded and asked to sit inside a Bentley while wearing an oxygen mask to prevent sniffing the leather, you’ll immediately know ur sitted inside an expensive vehicle. Our bodies cannot tell lies.

Lastly, its the quality and type of door seals used + the thickness of the all glass areas.

Note:
On any vehicles, you can only do sound control measures on 50% the vehicle. 50% above waist level are mostly glass...which nothing much can be done except the fitment of the thickest security window film.

And what if I want to reduce engine sound audible in cabin - what is better? To apply "something" from engine bay side on firewall, or put something from interior side behind dashboard? I didnt find proper solution to apply without dismounting engine or dashboard. And also what material to use? Because I think that engine sound is going to cabin also throug wipers area + throug hole where fresh air is sucking into ventilation "chimney"... or is enough to isolate area under wipers (in respect to water outlets)?

I have a 2017 Holden Astra Hatch and I am just starting to sound proof the rear wheel arch area as there does seem to be a fair amount of noise coming from there. I am wondering what is the best method to sound proof the hollow section behind the wheel arch that has limited access and needs air flow through to vent the interior? In the past on a previous car I had used exanding foam here but it is a bit risky as it may push out the rear fenders and block air flow. I find your videos interesting and like your products.
