Professor RobBob, this is another excellent video/lecture on the Applications of Parabolas in Standard Form. Parabolic Satellite Dishes, Flashlights, Suspension Cables from Bridges are all examples of Parabolas that is used in everyday life on planet earth.

For your second example when you used a random point, shouldn't that point be (6, 0) instead of (6, 9) ? (6, 9) would be off the path of the parabola.. great video nonetheless!

if you write the equation y=a(x-h)^2+k you can solve the second app much faster.
i wonder if that second exercise can be solved otherwise. anyway great work and keep on posting.

what if the problem said that considering the thickness of the headlight reflector is is 1 unit blabla. find the focus? what to do? the only given is the width and the heightof the reflector

Question prof. Rob Bob. is the position (depth) of the focus supposed to be in the optimum position for taking max. advantage of whatever ( light, sound, cable reception ) is being received or sent? that is, once we find where it should be, is this the best  position?
