The second release should not be done by inserting that philips into the key like that. Instead there's a slit in the bottom to fit a flat head. That one takes almost no force, where's that philips push for me cracked the case a tiny bit (and didn't get it open at all). Instead of inserting the philips, look in that same side an you will see 3 flat slits, use the middle one

Nice, just destroyed my key following these instructions (at part that starts 00:35). Saw later that there are two little slots, into which a small flat screwdriver can be inserted to easily open the battery cover.

Thanks for the video, however there's no need to force it off like he did at 0:47 If you look closely, there is a tab to press in with a triangle apex pointing to where to push in the tab to lift the battery plate off.

Valuable video, a shop wanted 25 dollars to replace the battery, I got the battery for 6 dollars and replaced myself thanks to the video.

thanks for the video...if anyone else is tired of replacing the battery too often, its easy to remove or shave down the vertical plastic supports under the battery to fit a thicker coin cell. i use a CR1632, it should be double the longevity and better range for a longer time, as well

Thought I was going to have to take my key fob to the Mazda dealership to have it done. This helps a lot thanks.

Life saver! Now I don’t have to go to a dealer and spend a ridiculous amount of money on it

First part was helpful. Then I broke the plastic when he said to use a screwdriver to gently pop out the other piece to get to the battery. Realized the plastic was all attached in that area. Watched another video that explained it has another button to push to open it without any force.

Thanks. Scratching my head until you showed the hidden release catch. Useful video. Thanks again for posting.

This was a great video. I did it but I used a tiny screwdriver and once I found the right spots, it opened up easily. I had to laugh when the battery cover flew off. But this helped me 100%.

Well, I searched YT for "mazda 626 key fob battery" and I got this video. And didn´t read the description. So I broke the plastic on the key. Thankfully it´s an easy fix with superglue.

Thanks for this. Very easy to do. I thought I was struggling with the little catch at the start but I didn’t realise I’d already loosened it 👍🏻

Very helpful video. Only thing I'd add is to use a small flat-head screwdriver on the step where you're separating the two halves to access the battery.
