Simple, straightforward, practical advice.

I understand the risks of over-grandiose projects; there are a few I've had in mind for over 20 years and will probably never achieve (since I can't win the lottery). Fortunately, there are other ideas that aren't that elaborate.

But your point about GETTING STARTED is key; do the easier ones as a proof of concept, and use the results from those sessions to help gain experience and get buy-in from others to enable creating the more elaborate/complex/advanced ones. Or even to refine the idea further once some initial exploration has taken place.

My opposite caveat is to try to define some end-point somewhere along the line, where you can feel you're finished. I've started a couple of projects--one more than 10 years ago--and still haven't finished; they're just too open-ended. It does keep me off the streets, though. :)

Thanks for your insightful videos!

Thank you Daniel! This has really opened up my eyes. I have had an idea for a long time. Then at a fine art workshop the presenter said something and I decided to do something more constructive about the idea, something I have not seen a lot of. I have so far talked to one that has been through my concept, and we did a quick test shoot, too many people around and in a rush as it was at a camera club workshop about studio and bodyscape photography. The photo came out fairly okay. So I have two photos I can use to approach people with this concept. Which I did not think of using but makes sense. Will go slow but this concept will take a while and I will continue till I get it right and in a gallery. Thanks for the good advice! And of course a great channel!

Very useful. I particularly like the idea of taking close-ups of your cat and trying to convince people it’s a beard 😆
More seriously, I like the idea of a deeper dive into this 🙂

Solid fundamental development steps. That's why I subscribe to your channel and Adorama. It isn't rocket science. It's doing the work to get to your goal. You did an awesome job of taking an idea, to a gallery. Complete with 'popping champagne'. As the folks in the UK say "Genius!"

Excellent topic Daniel Norton! I must say the thing with Photography is that aside from capturing moments we also create illusions, so many times we have to make things look like something else. Many times a location may look grand in picture but in reality it was not. Thanks for all the great topics and ideas you share in your wonderful channel Sir!

That makes Total Sense. Beards like a lot of other subjects will have a limited appeal. Have a Good Weekend Daniel

Sometimes it's the most simple advice that is the best one. thanks Daniel for this insight. I always fall for the "oh, someone else might have already done it, and even better" thoughts.

all good and timely advice - ideas starve from lack of nourishment, I have been thinking about and planning a small project - I did a couple concept test shots recently and am ready to go to a location to get it started next week - thanks for the encouragement

Thank you! Saved to my 'watch later' list. Not to watch it later, but to re-watch it again. And probably again. So many obvious thoughts mentioned that are easy to forget. Thanks!

Thanks Daniel, being in the season, try the Pioneers from the French Foreign Legion for the standard beards on the Champs Elysee on the 14th of July.
