I had the privilege to meet this man in 2006 when I was walking past RadioCity and he was talking with the bassist of his former band I believe. I very nervously said hello and he warmly invited me into the conversation, and he was one of the most genuine and kindest people I have ever met!

He just sounds like a gentle and kind soul. Someone who truly cares about his fellow man. His creativity is off the charts. We need more people like Mr. Stipe.

We're all just broken toys looking for the right pieces. This man was just honest enough to admit it.

I could listen to Michael talking for hours. I love the sound of his voice; the lilt of his accent coupled with his nervousness and anxiety just makes him that bit more lovable. He is one of my '3 dream dinner party guests.' He's also one of the kindest, nicest and most decent people in the world. I wish the world was full of Michael Stipes.

Had never heard Michael Stipe speak at length prior to this. What a delightful surprise!

Everybody Hurts has saved me so many times. I wouldn’t be breathing right now if weren’t for this song.

REM is one of the greatest American bands of all time. Right up there with any of them.

The first time I met Michael, I introduced myself and he shook my hand and said, "I'm Michael." As if I didn't know. He's a gem.

There's something about Michael Stipe that is so comforting - it might be that there's 'no bullshit' nor 'airs nor graces' about him, or that he enters a room without flagging his celebrity or stature. How do I know this? I used to see him at Sundance in Park City - happy to sit at a sidewalk table, quietly sipping a coffee, engaged in conversation with novice film makers. That kind of interaction helps you through the tough times.

I LOVE this guy!!! He embraced his social anxiety coupled with his family history of hunchbacks and turned it into a successful career. Go Michael!!!

We need more socially conscious people in the world like Mr Stipe and all those he gave props to in this interview.

That was so uplifting.
It is a struggle everyday being part of that spectrum.

"Until The Day Is Done" -- "The verdict is dire, the country is in ruins." Thanks, to Donald J. Trump. REM saw it coming.
