What are your thoughts on miles cards vs cashback cards? Assumption of course that the person will actually use the miles once a year or so!

My understanding has always been that miles gives back more value as a % of spend amount in exchange for only being able to redeem for travels (and all the ridiculous hoops to jump through...) while cashback cards are more universally attractive for the hard cash but has lesser reward %.
