The DKC Soundtrack always gives me such a strangely nostalgic and melancholy feeling. I haven't played these games when I was a kid only heard of them and watched Lets Plays when I was a teen. The music is so unique and so, so good.

Technically, in Super Mario RPG, that's not intro text. It shows up only when Mallow does his Psychopath ability, which lets him read the enemy's thoughts.

Chrono Trigger is amazing. I love how it has such impactful moments involving time travel that aren't overly complicated. An RPG with meaningful side quests that's less than 25 hours is unheard of these days.

To this day, I still feel the snes was the greatest console ever made.

Surez the N64, PS1 and PS2 had some seriously good titles, but there's something pixel games and leaving room for the imagination to really capture the attention of the gamer.

Mario being born with a mustache would have been a crazy lore to have haha. Nearly had it with that Yoshi's Island factoid. =)

That mother should have been proud that her son could even pull off a Primal Rage fatality! They're freaking impossible!

I will say, at the lara section of the vid, ララ is not kanji but katakana, but The R’s in japanese katakana are indeed used for either L or R. Appreciate the work you guys put into your vids still, just wanted to clarify that. Keep being awesome dykg! 👏

God I love the DK series on the SNES so much. I love to admit that DK 3 is my favorite of them all!

9:23 that's not kanji, it's katakana, the Japanese alphabet used for foreign loan words or names.

11:13 Let me guess, in Japanese it was "Wild Rose" instead?

(I might be too used to Yoshi-P referencing that every time you get a password dialogue option in FFXIV)

11:17 I always thought that was a mistranslation, and the correct name was "Wild Rose" a reference to the password used by the resistance in FF II.

I really wish you guys showed the joke/wordplay for the Guerilla in the Japanese SMRPG, because it's hilarious if you can read the language.

In Japanese, Donkey Kong is spelled 「ドンキーコング DONKII KONGU」while the Guerilla is called 「ドソキーユングDOSOKII YUNGU」.

The joke is that since the characters for ンN and ソSO are so visually similar, as are the characters for コKO and ユYU, it's directly referencing just how similar, yet off brand, the Guerilla is to Donkey Kong.

The atmosphere of SNES' games music is beyond comparison

12:53 Actually having the text run off the screen would be pretty funny given how we generally view long legal disclaimers (and side effect lists) as boring over here.

The Donkey Kong/Phil Collins connection blew my mind. The DKC soundtracks will forever be among the best video game music out there.

Aww, they didn't include my favorite bit of trivia about Uniracers (an amazingly underknown game).

That is that the company got sued out of existence by PIXAR.

Pixar had made a 3d CG animation in like 1987, which featured a unicycle character dreaming about life as an entertainer. I didn't even know computer animation existed pre-1990, but it was pretty good. Anyway, they claimed the unicycle design was ripped off of theirs and somehow won. Though how many ways can you make a unicycle character look unique? RIP DMA Designs.

the DKC2 Phil Collins reference was well known before 2010 by everyone who knew the song and played the game since the 90s, we just thought it was a coincidence, until confirmed by David Wise decades later.

I've been playing the SNES since I was 2 years old. Still my favorite console.
