My favorite part of their relationship is that Russ is really the noble and honorable (and naive) knight and the Lion is the marauding savage at their core but they both play the role of the other.

That's one thing I love about Russ. He is often believed to be a savage but other than maybe Magnus, he genuinely cared for his brother primarchs. Reading his last interaction with Horus in Wolfsbane was heartbreaking.
