I’ve made a couple dozen planters like your #5. After the first eight I added feet so there was a 2 inch air space between the box bottom and the deck it sat on. Without the feet water dripping rotted the deck even though it was treated lumber. The airspace lets the deck dry. Your five designs are elegant and simple to build. Thanks for the time you put into making the video.

Soo, last year I replaced a lot of wood on my deck, like 90% of it. Some pieces rotted, some just looking old, etc. Being who I am I didn't throw out any of the old wood. This spring my wife asked me if I could make her some planter boxes. Light bulb went off and I started wondering if the old wood from the deck I replaced last year could be used. Wifey told me about what size planter boxes she wanted. I spent about 2 days cutting up and trimming all the old wood. Let me tell you there is a lot of wood. I could probably make like 20 planter boxes. I wanted to get some ideas on how to make them and here I am. I'm super excited with your design ideas. I really like that you made the bottoms raised from the bottom. You really don't need so much dirt weight in a box.

Love your channel. You restore old machines, make your own tools, holders and stuff this is what people need not 100 grand worth of machines like some people do and say oh look this is easy. You show what its like for most people aquiring stuff along the way. Keep up the good work mate.

If you live in a humid climate like I do, be sure to use outdoor-rated glue, and stainless steel screws. Also good idea to leave gaps between the boards for expansion. It can also help to dip the ends of the feet in epoxy or one of the purpose-made sealers/hardeners to help prevent them from soaking up water from the ground/bricks/etc.

Just wanted to comment on your videos. I don’t know what your background is, (engineering maybe) but your projects are extremely well designed and thought out. I have been a weekend wood worker since I was 14 in my dads shop and now I’m 61. Your vid’s have caused me to get back into my shop and create. Waiting to see the drill press plans come on the site. Hello it's a great job, I suggest you add rops on either side of the planters, so that you can lift them they are full of soil. Cordially
