Regardless of the footprint of the buckets this raises some of the garden up making it easier to work on the plants. Also if the winds weren’t knocking down my buckets then my dog was. It didn’t take too many years of that for me to give and get my hubby to build tall raised beds. It’s expensive and labor intensive to fill a 100 cubic ft of space. Also raised beds aren’t easily moved when I want to alter my garden set up.

hanging the buckets by their plastic rims is a recipe for buckets falling through. The plastic gets brittle.

If you need another container idea, use those plastic barrels. You should be able to find them at car dealerships. They have their windshield washer fluid in them. If oilfield is nearby you, there should be a chemical company close. I got mine from there. They had methanol and biocide in them. Methanol is flammable and biocide is a low grade acid, but both are easy to clean. I used a green scrub pad, dish soap and water. I cut mine in half, both short and long ways. Just fill with straw, manure, mix some playground sand in, top off with potting soil and add some red wiggler worms.

Usually you tier a garden to save space. But this garden takes the same amount of space as just putting the buckets on the ground. Tell me more what are the advantages here?

Having it tiered rather than one level seems like a waste of space despite the fact that the space is vertical.
